Let’s check some history pages

This therapy is a new trend these days. But, Cupping Therapy is mentioned even in the oldest medicine book –  ‘Ebers Popyrus’. It’s mentioned how the Egyptians used this therapy in 1550 B. C.!!!  This therapy was widely used by Egyptians, Chinese and Middle East countries.

What is this therapy is all about???

Cupping is ancient healing technique, where the therapist places cups on our skin for few minutes. These cups are placed for creating suction. This is how it’s gonna heal the pain.

Purpose for which people opt for this.

People opt for this in order to heal pain, inflammation, blood circulation, deep tissue massage etc.

Types of cups used:

  • Bamboo
  • Earthenware
  • Glass
  • Silicon

Types of Cupping Therapy :

  • Wet
  • Dry

Let’s see how it is done.

Firstly, the therapist puts some flammable things like paper or herbs inside the cups and puts it on fire. Ones the fire goes off, cups will be placed on your skin upside down.  ouchhh

So as and when air inside the cup cools down, it creates vacuum. This makes your blood vessels expand. Thus it raises and reddens your skin.

There are therapists who use rubber pump inside the cup instead of fire to create suction.

One more type of cup – Silicon cups are used for the same purpose but with added benefits. Silicon cups can be moved Giving massage like effect…!!!

Ok now a bit scary part.

Wet Cupping.

Wet cups are placed on skin for three minutes with very mild suction. After that, the therapist removes the cup and with the help of a small piercing tool, he makes tiny cuts. Now he does second round of suction by placing the cups to remove a little quantity of blood…!!! phew

It’s believed that this wet cup suction technique removes toxic substances from our body.

There is one more Cupping Therapy –

Needle Cupping.

Here the therapist puts the acupuncture pins before placing cups on them.
