Hello,
It’s time to say bye bye to shorter days and welcome longer days…!!!
Yes it is a festival time here in India…!!! Everyone celebrating – Makara Sankranti. This is festival with reference to God Sun. Scientifically, it is a festival which is celebrated as per solar cycle. The first day of Sun’s transit into Capricorn(Makara) has been marked as Makara Sankranti. It is usually celebrated on 14th of January.
India is known for its unity in diversity. Different people of different regions call this festival by different names. It is Makara Sankranti for Karnataka people, Pongal for Tamilians. Makara Sankranti is celebrated as Lohri by North Indians. Pedda Pandaga by people from Andra Pradesh and Magh Bihu by Assamese.
As a part of the celebration, people follow different rituals in different regions. Some people start their day by taking holy dip in river and worship God Sun. Some celebrate by flying kites. We, from Karnataka state celebrate by sharing sweets with each other. Don’t forget the tag line of this festival “Take Sweet, Talk Sweet and Be Sweet”. haha This is what we say while sharing sweets with others.
I am sure most of us have our own special memories related to this festival. Mine being, bugging mom to give me a girly , yet small box to carry sweets to school. Anddd don’t forget the small spoon which can fit in that small sweet box. Those days the tag line which I mentioned above was nothing less than a tongue twister, as we used to be in hurry to distribute sweets among each other. Those were the days…!!!!
Today is ‘traditional day’ at office as a part of Makara Sankranti celebration. Here is my Outfit for the day. This is the same dress which I had mentioned in this OOTD post. This is one of the two dresses which my mamma gifted me for last year’s birthday.
This Anarkali suit is of light orange shade. The upper layer of net, has the golden and pearl embroidery work. Pearl embroidery is limited for only upper body. I loved the color combination of this dress. Gold and pearl combination always flatters me.
The boarder of the net layer has this floral embroidery. The threads used for this design are of color — green, yellow and red.
Dupatta is of same shade as that of the dress and as you can see it is a netted one.
The pant for this dress even though not visible due to the length of the dress haha, is of lighter yellow color. Shade is similar to that of the yellow floral design on the border of the dress.
Along with the color combo, I love the fact that this dress is not that heavy. Carrying heavy dress whole day is something holds you back from make the most of the day. Agree???
For accessories, I kept it minimal for neck and hands. For hands, I opted for pearl bangles to go with the pearl embroidery.
As you know I love earrings, I have tried posing for photos with two different set of earrings. The first one being the golden and pearl jumkas. The second one is the golden hanging earrings.
All thanks to my beautiful colleague and friend Chaitali, who clicked these pictures for me.
Here are some of those random clicks.
