Skin care people are always always drawn towards new skin care products. I have been trying out different face masks lately.

This glow mask which I am reviewing today, is something I wanted to try from quite long time. Just because of it’s ‘fanciness’. It has stars and glitters in it guys…!!! Does that not sound fancy enough???

Let’s see whether this fancy product is worth being a skin care junkie’s fantasy…!!!

Even though it contains glycerine which is moisturizing + berries extracts which are rich in antioxidants, it does contains added fragrance. Certain artificial fragrance can irritate the skin/ eyes.

Packing:
Each variant comes in different colored packing. Berries one comes in a pink pack. The outer pink cartoon has the details mentioned in golden font. Pack looks quite girly.

Product comes in tub packing. Again the tub color depends on the product inside. It has the lid inside for double protection. The outer lid or the cap is tight enough to carry this tiny box while travelling, without fear of spillage.

All the details like ingredients, shelf life, how to use, caution etc have been mentioned on the outer as well as the inner pack. I personally like the tub or the container which has all details mentioned over it because we hardly save the outer cartoon for long. If the details are mentioned over the container that helps in long run.

This also comes with a spatula to take out product and to apply. This avoids your hands from getting messy while applying.

Color:
This is red mask with pink undertone, which does reminds you of berries.

Fragrance:
If you have tried those fellero chocolates, especially strawberry flavour, this smells like that. But kind of artificial one.
But the fragrance is quite strong. Once applied it takes some time to fade away. But  that time is enough for your eyes to start watering especially if you have sensitive nose.  My eyes start tingling and watering whenever I have used this mask.

Consistency:
This is neither runny nor thick. Gel like consistency. The glow mask has shining or glittery particles. Stars and glitters. They are technically doing nothing for the skin. They are just making the mask fancier.

My Experience:
As I mentioned, as soon as I start applying the mask, my eyes start tingling. Within few minutes they start watering. But thankfully the fragrance gets faded away within five minutes.

The mask takes minimum 20 minutes to solidify or to work completely.

Peeling off the mask was slightly painful. Rest of the points I will categorise in terms of pros and cons.

Pros:

  • Travel friendly packing.
  • The glitter particles are not harming your skin. I was slightly sceptical about it. They are chunky small particle with sharp edges, especially the stars. But they didn’t harm the skin when applied or when peeled off.
  • Skin was left super clean.
  • After peeling off the mask skin wasn’t left dry. Which most of the peel off masks do.
  • Glycerine is moisturizing.
  • Berries have antioxidant properties.

Cons:

  • Peeling off mask was slightly painful. Can’t complain much as I have used the worst ones.
  • Strong smell irritates my eyes. If you also have sensitive nose, please consider this point.
  • Contains added fragrance.
  • Has preservatives.
  • Has Color pigments (CI 12490).
  • This mask takes lot of time to dry.
  • Washing off left over mask needs extra care. The glitter particles might scratch your skin if you rub your face while washing.

Does this works the way what it claims?
IT works on wrinkles – I don’t think there is any mask as such exists that works on wrinkles. Wrinkles appear as and when skin ages. This claim is something I can’t buy.
Working on scars – I have used this mask thrice so far. May be too soon to say but it has not made any changes to the scars as such.

Will I Repurchase?
Since my eyes start watering due to the fragrance, I won’t be buying the same flavour. But I would like to try other variant. May be charcoal one.

Will I Recommend?
If you have sensitive nose then it would be a no.
This is a decent buy. It does leaves skin clean and doesn’t dry your skin. If you want to try fancy glitter mask which is not doing any harm to your skin, go for it.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Green Tea

One of my intentions of this year being the healthier and fitter version myself, I have started with some of good healthy habits. One among them is drinking green tea…!!! Yes. weight loss or fitness discussion is incomplete without mentioning this magical drink called green tea. I have seen and heard people consuming this tea without knowing what actually it does to our body. How it actually works… Everybody knows that green tea is healthiest drink for body. But, what not everybody knows that drinking green tea has disadvantages also…!!!

I have gathered some information from people who have been consuming this ‘healthy’ drink since good long time and from other resources. Let me share you the information I got about Green tea.

Green tea’s origin:

Green tea is mostly popular in eastern countries like Japan, Thailand, India etc.

From where green tea is extracted:

Different types of tea powder are prepared from Camellia sinensis plant. The dried leaves and leaf buds are powdered to prepare tea powder. Different types of tea powder preparation involves different processioning methods. Well, our topic of the day – green tea, is prepared by steaming and pan-frying these leaves and then drying them.

What it contains???

Green tea contains two to four percent of caffeine. Also contains antioxidants.

How to prepare green tea???

There are many brands out there who offer a lot many flavored and unflavored green tea powders and tea bags. Just the way you prepare regular tea, instead of regular tea powder you will have to add green tea powder to milk. But if you are aiming for weight loss, do skip milk and sugar. Just hot water and green tea powder should be enough. If you didn’t like the taste, you can add natural sweetener like honey. Skip sugar my dear honey.

How  does it tastes???

I have started using Lipton green tea – Tulsi flavor. You just have to dip green tea bag in a cup of hot water for few minutes and close your eyes and drink. Closing your eyes is optional. haha. But, honestly it doesn’t tastes good but health comes before taste you know…!!!

How to consume green tea rightly???

This is something really important in order to get most out of this healthy drink.

  • Maximum quantity of green tea per day is 1200 ml, i.e. not more than 5 cups.
  • Green tea should not be consumed on empty stomach as it might cause liver toxicity.
  • If you have any medical history or pregnant, consultation about preferred quantity is must.
  • Never sip it in night unless you work as a watchman who is expected to be awake the whole night. You know what I mean.
  • Do not consume right after your meal. At least two hours of difference should be there between meal and green tea consumption. Because green tea doesn’t let your body consume the iron and other beneficial contents from the meal.
  • Consume loads of water on consuming green tea. You will find out why in the disadvantage section below.

Advantages of Drinking green tea:

These are the advantages you will get if you consume green tea rightly.

  • Improves mental alertness.
  • It increases urine output. Thus helps in getting rid of toxins from the body. Detoxification is so important in order to keep body healthy. You can check this post about how to detox body in different ways.

  • Good for skin
  • Stomach disorders
  • Good home remedy for vomiting, diarrhea, headache and bone loss
  • It has been proved that it has anti cancer property. Helps in preventing different types of cancer.

Disadvantages of  Drinking Green tea:

Green tea is not as easy as you think it is. It should be consumed rightly in right quantity. Else it will more bad than good to you. If you consume the tea in access quantity all of a sudden, you are inviting more trouble. Here are lesser known facts about it.

  • As I said green tea do contains caffeine. This is not a good content for those individual who have anxiety problems or for those ladies who are pregnant. Hence quantity to consumed should be decided after a consultation from a doctor.
  • If you exceed the limit of green tea intake per day, you will end up upsetting your stomach plus it might also cause nausea.
  • You know, green tea dehydrates your body??? Yes. You will have to drink more and more water if you consume green tea in order to balance the water content in the body.
  • It can increase anemia.
  • If you have glaucoma, green tea does increases pressure inside eyes. Thus worsening the condition.
  • Green tea may prohibit calcium from being absorbed into the bones thus resulting in osteoporosis.
  • Green tea can decrease the ability of your body to absorb iron content. Thus iron deficiency…!!
  • Might cause insomnia.
  • Caffeine can be more hazardous. It might end up irregular heart beats.
  • Green tea causes oxidative stress. Which might result in vomiting.
  • Excessive caffeine consumption has also been linked to muscle spasms and twitching.

  • Caffeine has also been linked to restless leg syndrome.
  • Green tea is acidic. It might you suffer from heartburn.
  • A study was conducted where green tea extract was found to significantly accelerate the onset of convulsions.
  • Caffeine in green tea can increase the risk of bleeding. Hence those who have bleeding disorders, stay away from green tea.
  • Green tea quite confusing I must say. There are studies which contradict each other, One study says green tea decreases diabetes and headaches. Whereas the other study says it increases them.
  • If green tea is consumed in higher quantity, it will damage liver.
  • The commonest skin allergies associated with green tea consumption are eczema and hives.
  • Green tea higher consumption results in kidney disorder.
  • Thyroid problems might also be caused.
  • One study states that consuming green tea too often can lower fertility.
  • Green tea does improve oral health but it also stains your teeth. Ooops…!!!

So, these are the points I wanted to share with you my dear reader.

I know disadvantage list is longer than the advantage list. But, green tea is not harmful at all if it is consumed in moderation. Right quantity, right way will achieve the best.

Simple Steps to Follow This Year, for Better Health and Beauty

Well, my pretty reader – since we are in a very new year, we all are energised, happy and hopeful for something good this year. Let’s take some steps to achieve the best of ourselves. Sounds good??? Cool. Lets do this.

I have a post for you today which will list down all the small yet good steps which we need to take in order to get the awesome results. You know you are not too old to dream a new dream and to set a new goal for yourself. right???  Try to include these steps  everyday. Come on, theses are very simple. You can do it. Or, let me rephrase it as – ‘We’  can do it.

Shall we start???

Health comes first. Lets start with easy breezy steps to improve health.

Physical Health Tips:

  • Drink more water.( Don’t yawn plz. I know you have been reading this a lot. Its time to practice it)
  • Eat healthy. (Stop yawning)
  • Instead of asking you to eliminate junk food from your diet, let me put it this way. Lets challenge ourselves not to eat junk food for 2 days, then eventually increase that to a week, a month. I  myself a huge junk food addict. I have made my mind to train it by accepting such challenges. Hello, if I win??? I am gonna treat myself with some junk food. haha that is how we treat an addict.
  • Start your day with a glass of warm water and honey.
  • Are you a chocolate lover like me??? I am replacing my chocolates with dark chocolates. Because dark chocolates with more than 70% cocoa have more antioxidants. Are you with me in this ‘mission dark chocolate’???
  • Exercise. I am not asking you to pay for gym membership. We can do it right from where we are sitting. Just stretching, some leg exercises while you are seated on your chair, instead of taking elevator take stairs. I personally prefer stairs not only because its an easy workout, but its less crowded, peaceful and you get to breath some fresh air unlike in an elevator(you know what I mean).
  • Chew your food. Haha it sounds like a strict mommy’s dialogue. But jokes apart gal, we need to chew our food properly in order to ease the digestion process and to get more benefits from the food.
  • Brush your teeth twice daily. Oral health is very important. We tend to neglect that which results in bad breath and poor teeth condition. When all is good, we don’t get it. But when you suffer from teeth ache, then you realise all the bad things you did to your teeth. #karma haha
  • While Brushing, you can do some squats to utilize that time. Time saving huun??

Mental Health:

If you agree or not, most of us are hesitant and ignorant about mental happiness. Let’s not make that mistake this year. Because everything starts and ends at your mental health. If you are mentally fit, it will reflect in your physical health.

  • Make some time for yourself. Spend it on doing what you like. Be it self care, any hobby, cooking any thing.
  • Take a walk outside. Observe the world around you. When you are feeling low, even a small ant can be inspiring enough to lift you up. Ant falls while carrying a food particle which is much more bigger than it’s own size. But ant never gives up.
  • Spend time with old citizens, kids or pets. They help you forget all the stress.
  • Compliment or help some unknown people. Try it. You will know that kind of happiness.
  • Dance to your favorite music. You don’t have to be a professional dancer to enjoy the music. Just move your body to the beats(or off beats) the point is to enjoy it.
  • Sing. You are not participating in any music competition. There are no judges. Even if the people around you is trying to judge you, just ask them one question – what is the winning amount ??? #wink
  • Stressed??? I have a quick solution – Breath…!!!
  • Plan a vacation with loved ones. Be it a little one or big plan. Do it.
  • As they say there is always good in a bad day. Write down things you are thankful for at the end of the day.
  • Reduce the time you spend in the virtual world of social media.
  • Importantly – Smilllleeeee…..!!!!

  • Never go to bed with your makeup on. Plz.
  • I know we love our girl-friends. But plz stop sharing your makeup with them. You are not doing any good to yourself or to them. Sharing used makeup can harm your skin more.
  • Do not compromise on the products you use for your skin.
  • Maintain good hygiene to maintain good skin.
  • Clean your phone screen. It has maximum number of bacteria which can harm your skin.
  • Good sleep is a must.
  • You deserve a spa session at least once a month. You don’t have to make a hole in pocket by booking an appointment in a well known spa. You just make use of the ‘search’ box at the end of this page and get to know how to do facial, bath salts for that long relaxing bath, hair spa etc. at home…!!!
  • Most important tip – love yourself. You are an original creation. Do not try to imitate and be a copy.

Pros and Cons of Coffee

While I was sipping coffee the other day, a random thought about ‘what’s good and bad in coffee’  came to my mind. So after researching, I could list below points.

Read on if you are a coffee lover like me. Let’s see what a cup of coffee does to your body.

Good things first :

  • Helps in weight loss.  Yes…!!! How?!! Ok…  Coffee contains magnesium and potassium. These both help in utilizing insulin. This helps in balancing blood sugar level and controlling craving for sweets.
  • Helps in Burning that nasty fat. Caffeine helps fat cells in breaking down fat cells.
  • Helps your mental alertness. Moderate intake of coffee helps to stay focused and improves mental alertness. It also helps in increasing memory power.
  • Coffee lowers the risk of death.  The studies have proved that the risk of death in a man who drinks coffee is 25% less than that of the one who doesn’t.
  • Coffee can reduce the risk of cancer. Few people were made to drink 2-4 cups of coffee everyday,for study purpose. It’s observed that the growth of  endometrial cancer by 25% in women and growth of  prostate cancer in men by 20%.
  • Risk of stroke and Parkinson ‘s disease is lowered by coffee. Scientists have proved that regular consumption of coffee in moderate quality helps in reducing the risk of stroke and Parkinson’ s disease by 25%.
  • Protects your body. Coffee contains lot of antioxidants. Antioxidants are warriors inside our body. They fight against free radicals and protect our body.
  • Protects brain from diseases like Alzheimer and Dementia.

  • Mood lifter, stress buster. Yes, coffee stimulates central nervous system and releases happy hormones. These help in lifting up the mood. Also studies say that 2 cups of coffee a day can keep depression away by 50%.
  • Performance booster. If you want to improve your physical activity by 10-12%, have a cup of black coffee one hour prior to your gym session. This is because, coffee increases adrenaline rush in your body.

Now let’s look at the harm it does…!!! 

  • A coffee made up of spoiled beans can kill you. It can be toxic and cause headaches, makes you feel low…!!
  • Drinking 80-100 cups of coffee or water at one go (I know it’s insane), can kill you. 
  • Coffee can cause insomnia. Strangely, the amount of suitable caffeine depends on each individual. If we consume more than that, we might end up being insomniac and feel restless.

  • Coffee should not be recommended for a pregnant lady. The fetus is much sensitive to caffeine. Hence pregnant women are not allowed to drink coffee.
  • Filter coffee for people with high cholesterol. Yes, coffee contains sugary contents. In the filtered coffee, most of which are trapped out. So reduces the risk of increasing cholesterol.
  • Coffee causes wrinkles. Oh nooooo!!!!  Coffee dehydrates your body. Too much consumption of coffee will result in wrinkles.

Have you ever wonder what must be the beauty regime of a Japanese woman ??? What must be her secrets to her spotless skin???

Well, today I will be sharing certain beauty secrets of these most beautiful people.

Watch what you eat:
For Japanese, beauty is not a project, its a life style. They believe in the inner glow you get by eating right. Japanese women do not eat spicy/sugary/salty/ fatty food. (Which are our weakness) Their diet includes fish, green vegetables and tons of fresh fruits. The omega 3 fatty acids present in these healthy food, helps in reducing the body’s production of the inflammatory chemicals. These chemicals are proven to be involved in the ageing process.!!!

Magical Green tea:
Japanese drink a lot of green tea. Green tea is high in antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. This keeps the body healthy and clean from inside.

Rice is the super food:
Rice is the major Japanese food. Rice helps in skin nourishment, prevents wrinkles and protects skin from UV rays.

Rice water:
Japanese women wash their skin and hair using  water in which rice is been cooked. It helps in making skin glow and hair shine.

Oil cleansing:
Japanese use oil to remove makeup. It not only removes the makeup/dirt, it also nourishes and moisturizes the skin. This point is been mentioned in one of the oldest book ‘Tale of Genji’ too.

Less is more:
They do not believe in layered makeup. Instead they believe in cleansing, moisturizing and a good face serum. Thus keeping their skin in a healthy condition.

Avoid sun:
Sun rays cause a lot of harm to skin. It boost the aging process. It tans. Japanese as much as possible, avoid stepping out in hot sun to protect their skin.

If you can’t eat it, you can’t apply it:
They believe in one rule, if you can not eat it, you can not apply it. If you apply harsh chemicals, they do more harm than good. Japanese say that whatever you apply, end up in blood vessels through skin’s pores. Hence be cautious about what you apply to your skin.

Lotion mask:
Instead of rubbing lotion/cream on your skin, Japanese believe in lotion mask. Where, you need to damp a cotton wool with lotion and place it on face like a mask. Keeping it on face for a good amount of 10-15 minutes will make you achieve most of it and I always prefer a easy breezy, relaxing  mask over rubbing the lotion. wink

  Massage away your wrinkles:
Japanese never recommend Botox/ any surgical method to stay young. I love the fact that they always always follow most natural method to glow. They spend some time daily to massage their face. They massage in the direction opposite to wrinkles thus they fight against sign of aging ‘wrinkles’.

Cleanse, cleanse and cleanse again:

 Bath time = you time:
Bath time for them is not just cleaning body with water and soap. Its a ritual. They enjoy their bath time thoroughly. They use relaxing bath salts.

Exfoliation is key:
Rubbing off the old and dry skin does a lot of good to skin. Japanese believe in exfoliating body using natural ingredients like coffee to achieve super soft skin.

 Give yourself a Vitamin C hit:
Vitamin C is helpful to keep the youthfulness. magical Japanese never forget their vitamin C intake. Adding orange to your diet is a must to fight against the sign of aging.

Stress, is a monster which not only kills happiness, it also harms the skin. Japanese try and adopt a stress free life. (awww I love them for the dedication they have for maintaining beauty…!!!)

Wooden combs for beautiful hair:
The plastic combs which we use doesn’t make any extra good to hair. sad Japanese use handmade wooden combs. These help in distributing oil and with less fiction.

Bird Droppings:
This is the famous facial introduced by Japan. The Bird Droppings claimed to have certain enzymes which are useful for skin’s nourishment.  (ewww )

Fish pedicure:
I love this. When you dip your legs in a tank full of tiny cute fishes. When they clean your feet by eating the dirt(I know sounds gross) The tingling feeling is cute and enjoyable. Japanese always swear by this for their foot care.

So, these are some of the tips from ‘The land of Rising Sun’. I would love to try some of these tips for sure. Eating healthy being the toughest one for me, I will have to try harder for it. hehe
