New Member to My Skin & Hair Care Routine – Hydrosol

Last year while the world witnessed a lot of ‘New Normals’, lot of things changed in beauty industry as well. More people started leaning towards skincare and less on cosmetics or makeup products. While trying to know and try some chemical free natural skincare products, I came across this holy grail called – Hydrosol.

Let’s know what is product is all about. Shall we??

First and foremost let’s see what is Hydrosol?

Hydrosol is magical water ( I mean water based product with benefits which can work like magic) made from the distillation of fresh flowers, leaves, fruits and other plant material. Doesn’t that sound wow..!

So, there are multiple types of Hydrosol available right?

Yes. There are Hydrosol made of different flowers (my favourite is Rose), many leaves are used to make Hydrosol ( I liked curry leaves one so far!!) etc.

How is the consistency?

When I said it’s magical water, like literally. When it comes to consistency, it is as light as water.

What about fragrance? Are they strong smelling one??

They have more subtle scent mostly. Again depends on the variant. For example Rose Hydrosol is more soothing fragrant (if you like fragrance of Rose), curry leaves one is kind of moderate, Lavender one can fall on slightly stronger note.

Is it similar to essential oil? If not, how are they different from essential oils?

They have a lot in common with essential oil as Hydrosols are byproduct of essential oil manufacturing process.! What makes Hydrosol different is that they are way less concentrated as compared to essential oils.

Are they supposed to be used only for skin?

No. They can be used for both skin and hair.

How to use Hydrosol?

You can spritz Hydrosol on face like toner. Can be sprayed on scalp for the betterment of scalp and hair health. It can also be used as a base for your skin care and hair care DIYs (That’s more like my deal. I love DIYs. Don’t you?? ) Plus, some Hydrosol with slightly stronger smell can be used as body mist.!

Let’s talk about most important point – What are the benefits of Hydrosol?

Hydrosol can cleanse your skin, maintain pH level and calm your skin. If you have itchy scalp, Hydrosol can help you get healthy scalp. Some are even used for hair growth as well..! Hydrosol can also be used for relaxation..!

Things to take care of before using Hydrosol.

Even though studies have proved that Hydrosol doesn’t really have any side effects, I would still ask you to do a patch test before using it. That’s because our skin reacts differently to different products, even if it natural/ chemical free one..!

Review of Hibiscus Gel By Puremie

Since the lockdown, most of us are spending time and money on skin care than any makeup product. For taking care of skin, homemade DIY stuffs are something that is keeping us occupied and skincare game interesting.!

Last year while browsing through Instagram, I came across this brand called Puremie. This brand offers clean and raw DIY stuffs that can be used in our skin care or hair care DIYs.

I have bought some of their gels and masking materials. Today reviewing one of those products.

They have 5 different gels that are their best sellers. Bought Aloe Vera Gel and Hibiscus gel out of those 5. Here is the detailed review of Hibiscus gel.

It looks like fire. Isn’t it?

Mygirlypedia.com

Fragrance:

Fresh fragrance with aqua based note. Not at all strong.

Consistency:

Non sticky, non greasy formula.

My experience:

I used it directly on my hair and face. Application is easy. It is not at all messy. Once applied, doesn’t feel heavy. Washing it off was also easy. I didn’t have to wash it multiple times to clean it fully. One wash was enough. That’s something cool especially if you have long hair. Post using it, it made my hair super soft and silky. Best thing is it reduces scalp’s oiliness.

For skin, it moisturised my skin. Did not cause any breakouts.

Mygirlypedia.com

Pros:

  1. Eco friendly packing.
  2. Non greasy formula.
  3. Doesn’t feel heavy.
  4. Ingredient list is safe.
  5. Makes hair soft and silky.
  6. Reduces scalp oiliness.
  7. Moisturises skin.

Cons:

  1. Jar packing is not hygienic. Since it is a DIY product, workaround would be to transfer the gel in the required quantity to other container/ plate to use.!

Mygirlypedia Rating: 4.9/5

Final Verdict:

This jar is my third purchase. With the price, quantity and most importantly, the results are enough to buy this jar again and again.

Even though it is a chemical free product, I would suggest you to try out patch test first before using it on entire face. Because some are allergic to natural ingredients.

Puremie does not have website. They operate via Instagram DMs. Here is the link to their page, where you can checkout their products/ reviews/ shop. : https://instagram.com/puremieskincare?igshid=12yu7fuloen9a

Chemical Free Shampoo Recipe By My Grandma

When it comes to hair care or skin care grandma’s recipes are the best. They never fail to amaze us every time we use them. Today I am going to share one of such wonderful hair care recipes from my dear grandma.

Finding a shampoo that works or us is as difficult as finding our soulmate. Even if we succeed in finding one, the fact remains the same that the shampoo does contain some chemicals that might harm our hair in the long run. So, what’s the solution then??

No wo’rries honey, I am going to share a solution. It is a DIY (Do It Yourself) Shampoo recipe. It has no chemicals only solutions for all your hair problems.!!

All you need are 3 ingredients. Lets make our shampoo. Ready?

1. Amla/Indian gooseberry:
Rich in vitamin C, amla is widely used in Ayurveda for hair & skincare. Major benefits being:
1. Reduces hair fall.
2. Makes hair strong.
3. Reduces dandruff.
4. Treats premature greying.
5. Promotes hair growth.
6. Treats scalp infections.

2. Reetha:
Ayurveda says dandruff is the real culprit when it comes to hair fall. Reetha helps in controlling hair fall by removing dandruff. It has antibacterial & anti-fungal properties which helps in fighting dandruff & hair fall. Reetha also adds moisture to scalp them making it feel healthy & supple.

3. Sheekakai:
This is a well known hair care product. Benefits of using Shekakai are:
1. Adds shine & softness to hair.
2. For stronger & thicker hair
3. Removes hair lice.
a. Removes dandruff
5. Heals infection.
6. Removes hair loss issue.
7. Nourishes hair follicles.
8. Avoids premature ageing.

How to make?
Its easy. Mix these ingredients in a bowl. Add water. Now boil the mixture.
Keep this mixture overnight so that the water gets time to absorb all the goodness of these  ingredients. Your shampoo is ready to be used the next day. Yeeaahh!!

PS: Filter out the ingredients before using for hassel free use of shampoo.

Mygirlypedia Note:

These are my learning through personal experience:
1. Make sure you never let the shampoo come in contact with your eyes. If you do, you will be left with red eyes because it burns (nothing severe but yes its’ better to avoid).

2. It leaves your hair soft. You don’t need to use conditioner post this shampoo. Thanks to Reetha and shikakai. So cool huun!

3. If you have oiled your hair, you will need more quantity of shampoo. This is the same case with any other hair cleaner!

4. If you have not filtered out the ingredients, there might be some ingredients stuck to your hair. No worries, once you are done washing, once the hair is dry, you can gently comb your hair to remove them.

Keep coming back to Mygirlypedia for such amazing recipes.

Winter Edition : Skin, Hair and Body Care Routine Using Chemical Free Products

Hello My Pretty Reader..!!

My favourite season is here..! Cool breeze, hot food and cozy bed sound perfect to me..! While we need layering of clothes to protect ourselves from cool breeze, our skin and hair also need layers of moisture to survive in the cold.

So, in this post I am going to share some of my favourite products I have been using lately to nourish my skin and hair. Do you know the best part? All these products are chemical and cruelty free.!

Let’s start with hair first because as I always say, hair is our crown.!

Hair :

Mygirlypedia.com

Cool breeze makes our hair dry and brittle. When hair becomes brittle, it will result in hair breakage. Hair fall is nothing less than a nightmare. For hair, extra moisturization is a must to keep it healthy. Aloe vera is very well known ingredient to help us get best version of hair and skin. I have a personal recommendation if you are looking for a good aloe vera gel. My recommendation would be from this homegrown brand called Deyga. Texture says it all..!! 🙂

You can buy your tub of aloe vera gel here.

Let me tell you how I use it.

  1. Dampen hair. Because when hair is damp absorption is better.
  2. Apply aloe vera to hair.
  3. Tie it up in a bun and leave it on for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Wash with regular shampoo and conditioner.

Aloe vera adds hydration and leaves hair super smooth and silky.!

Facial Skin:

Scrubbing :

Scrubbing is a process where we remove the dead skin cells to get soft healthy skin. If you have dry skin there is good chance that the scrub can leave your skin way more dry.

So I prefer to use my own homemade scrub when my skin is dry. Mix aloe vera and coffee powder and use it as scrub to scrub away dead skin cells. While coffee granules act as mild scrub, aloe vera makes sure my skin is moisturised.

Face Pack :

To add much needed moisture to facial skin, I again use aloe vera as a face pack. You can apply it directly on skin or you can use it as a base to your favourite face pack. Whenever I am feeling lazy, my go to face pack would be a thick layer of aloe vera gel. Wash off after 15 minutes.

When I am in a mood for extra pampering, I use aloe vera as the base and mix it with other ingredients like gram flour or fuller earth. Both the face packs work wonders.!

If you have acne prone skin, you can mix tea tree oil to your face pack. Make sure you dilute it as concentrated tea tree oil can harm your skin. If you are not used to using tea tree oil, I have a good alternative for you.

Mygirlypedia.com

This is something I prefer to use when I have breakouts. This is a tea tree toner. You can use it as a toner by spraying it on cleansed face. Also it works perfectly as a face pack base. Things I liked about it is that it gives cooling effect and helps in reducing the active acne. All thanks to its antibacterial property..!!

Checkout the Tea Tree Mist Here.

Body Care :

Just like facial skin, skin covering our body also requires equal care. To avoid dry flaky skin, we should make sure we use products that are moisturising.

Mygirlypedia.com

This handmade soap from the same brand has been added to my ‘good product list’ recently. Thing that made me love this handmade soap is the fact that it makes my skin all soft and supple after bath. My skin doesn’t scream for hydration soon after getting out of shower, which is the usual case.!

Checkout the Range of Handmade Soaps Deyga Has to Offer..!!

Also if you have pimples on body, you can apply a thin layer of aloe vera gel over it. Aloe vera gel helps to dry out body pimples and heals your skin.!

This is my winter skin & body care routine.

Do try this out and hope you will love the products as much as I do.

Happy winter…!!!

Home Remedies to Keep Elbows and Knees White Naturally…!!!

Hey Beautiful,

What’s up??? Enjoying wintery mornings??? The cold breeze??? I am loving it. It’s my favorite season after all…!!! I am the happiest when winter is around.

I have been writing a lot about winter care and products we need in order to protect skin from cold breeze. Today I am going to write about skin concern which is not seasonal, which is almost same through out the year – dark knees and elbows.

Dark-Knee-caps

Haven’t you seen pretty stylish girls with dark and very dry elbows and darker(as compared to their skin tone)knees. Elbows are still get unnoticed. But, when you wear short attire, dark knees are something which everyone notice. With Christmas and New Year around the corner, we gals are excited to shop and flaunt some western outfits. Hence, taking a good care of knees should be in our list to look perfect in this party season.

So, to ease this process I have some home remedies which will nourish and lighten your elbows and knees naturally. Shall we start???

Exfoliate:

As I mention in all most every dry skin care post, exfoliation is the key. By exfoliating dry skin, you can rub off the dry skin layer. This leaves skin soft and smooth.

For exfoliation, you can either opt for some good exfoliator from market, or you can find one in your kitchen. To name a few,

  • Sugar and coconut oil scrub.
  • Coffee, sugar and honey scrub.
  • You can even get a body brush and try dry brushing.

Bleaching Agents:

Applying below natural bleaching agents and washing them after fifteen to twenty minutes is proved to lighten knees and elbows.

Oils:

You can also try below oils on elbows and knees to achieve desired results.

Get-Rid-of-Dark-Elbows-Step-6

Moisturizer:

This is must in order to avoid skin from getting dry. Do not forget to add the moisture by applying a good body lotion twice a day to avoid dry or dark patches.

I hope you try these remedies at home and get the amazing results. 😉

I will share some outfit ideas for this Party season soon…!!!

Between, I have set a poll to listen to your valuable suggestions. Kindly click on the ‘Take A Poll’ link which is on top of this page and participate…!!!

Loads of Love,
Pallavi
