Everything You Need to Know About Piercing

Piercing, my second favourite body art. First being, tattoos..!!

Well, I have always loved accessories. Getting my ears pierced to flaunt some nice pieces of jewellery was in my list and I did get pierced. Let me share my experience and things I learnt through it.

  • Types:

There are two types of procedures to get pierced.
a. With piercing gun
b. With needle

Let me tell you more about them.

a. Piercing gun:
Here, they use this tool to puncture your ears. The earring with sharp end is placed on the gun. Keeping ear in between, the tool is pressed just the way a gun is trrigered.

Pros:

  • It’s very quick.
  • Doesn’t hurt.

Cons:

  • Compared to needle piercing, this method is quick and thus it damages skin cells more.
  • Gun needs to be properly sterilized to maintain good hygiene.

b. Needle:
This is oldmethod. A needle is used to puncture the body part to pierce the ornament.

Pros:

  • It’s slow and thus very less damage to skin cells.

Cons:

  • Compared to gun, it’s a bit time consuming.
  • It’s slightly painful than the gun one. But totally bearable.

My first piercing was done using piercing gun. (Which costed me 400 INR for both the ears.)

Second is done using needle. (Total cost was 1200 INR for both the ears. You will know why it was expensive in next points. )

Now that I have experienced both the types, let me share my experience with you.

  • Hygiene:

Make sure you get your piercing done from a good place. Hygiene being the primary point to take care, make sure the gun or the needle used are thoroughly sterilized.
During the first one, I was so excited that I didn’t do my homework about the piercing and care etc. By the word of mouth I just knew that the gun piercing is quick and painless. When I look back, I remember the person at the studio hadn’t even sterilized the gun..!!!
Second one as I said was done by needle. The needle was a new one, removed from sealed packing in front of me. The one who did my piercing had wore fresh pair of gloves. The earrings which were used post piercing were also sterilized. Once the piercing is done, the fresh piercing was cleaned using sterilizing solution.

  • Jewellery/ Ornament:

Ornament they put post piercing is something they give you. It’s included in the total charges they charge you for the piercing. Because the ornament should have a specific thickness. The choice of ornament will be totally yours. But make sure the studio/ shop has good number of choices to make. For the first piercing, I had been offered studs. For the second, I wore theses half rings. Theses half rings are easier as compared to the studs. Because studs hurt or poke while you sleep on them. But theses rings won’t. Also moving rings is easier as compared to studs. Studs usually have press locks. Which usually tend to become loose. Only con I can think about half rings is that the hair strands tend to stuck in them. If you happen to pull hair up to tie the bun, heavy chances are that you will be pulling your earrings along with them. Thanks to hair that gets tangled in half rings.

Bonus Tip:

The ornament or the earring in my case, should not be removed for a month. Reason being, the piercing ultimately which is a wound, can heal real quick and the hole might gets closed faster while it’s not healed completely. One of my friends had removed the earring in the night while the wound was just a week old. She couldn’t put it back in the morning because the hole or the wound was almost covered.

  • Post Piercing Care:

Post piercing care should be taken seriously. You got to wash the pierced area with warm salt water twice a day. This will make sure there is no bacterial infection.
Bonus point – Please wipe the salt water. If it gets accumulated, it will leave dark mark. If there is moisture, there is good chance you might get minor infection.

  • Healing Process:

You got to move the pierced ornament while the wound is healing. This will make sure the ornament doesn’t get stuck in the wound and helps in healing too. Bonus tip here is – make sure you have applied oil while you move the ornament. While it’s dry and if you try to move it, it is going to hurt more as it gets stuck when it’s dry.

Bonus Tip:

In the process of applying oil and moving the ornament, the earring/ the ornament might get lose. Especially the one with pressed lock. In this case, chances are high that the ornament just fall off. Take care of that..!!! I had experienced this in the middle of a night, while the wound was couple of weeks old. I gathered the courage and put it back even though it was hurting so much. I am so glad I did because if I had thought of putting it back in the morning, the hole might have covered up.! Then I had to get new piercing done at the same place all over again.

  • It hurts:

Every time when the ornament is pulled or gets stuck (in my earrings’ case, they get stuck with hair/ cloth), hurts. Till the time it heals, we will have to bare this inconvenience.
When I had the piercing done with the gun, it had hurt me real bad. Trust me, there were nights when I had though I will just remove it. I had also developed infection during the first piercing/ gun one.
My second one has been a good one. No much pain, no infection as such. #touchwood.

But I must say one thing, no matter what the final look or the vibe theses piercings give, makes it all worth the pain and care we take. It’s not only a symbol of fashion, but also an identity. To shop, wear, mix and match earrings and studs is something I have fallen in love with.

Hope this helps you to choose right method of piercing and all the care you need to take for that one month, while it heals.

Soured milk contains enzymes and probiotics which pasteurized milk does not. These enzymes and probitics make this ideal for beauty usage.

This facial is particularly called as Lactic Acid Facial. You know milk contains lactic acid. It is said to be best to lighten skin tone. Just like curd,  rubbing the face with soured milk will make skin smooth and firm. Also helps in lightening skin tone by removing tan.

Strawberry-and-Milk-face-Pack

Face pack

This face pack is a bliss for those who have extreme dry skin.

Mix a spoon of sour milk, 1 banana and 1 spoon of honey.  Apply this on dry skin for 5-10 minutes. It will add moisture and leaves skin plump and soft.

For Rashes / Infection

Sour milk is proven to be having soothing properties. If applied on infected or irritated skin, will helps in healing it.

Pedicure

Pedicure

Dipping those dry / cracked feet in a tub full of soured milk and water mixture will add moisture and thus healing the cracks. Making your feet happy.

PS: If the milk is ultra pasteurized, it will stink. Because it doesn’t contains the bacteria and enzymes which are required for the above mentioned uses. Hence do not use it.

So the next time when the milk gets sour, instead of throwing it away make the most out of it. (I mean by making best beauty uses apart from preparing cheese out of it. #wink)
