How I Make The Most of Sheet Masks

Sheet masks have a special place in the hearts of all skincare enthusiasts out there. They are super easy to use and of course they are pretty beneficials to skin.

If you are living under rock, these are the sheets drenched in serums which are like magic potion to our skin. You just have to place these sheets on your face for 10 – 15 minutes to let it work.  For any other FAQ about sheet masks or to know more about sheet masks here is one helpful post.

Now that we know the sheet mask usage, let me tell you how I make most out of a sheet mask..!

  1. Face serum before putting on the sheet mask.!

Sheet mask package contains more serum than required.! I love taking some serum on my finger tips and massage it to my face with circular motion. Once the serum is absorbed, I put on sheet mask and let it work.

  1. Jade roller while sheet mask is on:

While the mask is on, I love using jade roller over it to make the whole treatment extra relaxing. Also, that helps in better absorption of serum.!

  1. I use it as a hand serum:

I also apply the serum on my hands because hands are the first thing people notice when you introduce yourself to new people you meet.! Hands need care too.! And nowadays, in the pandemic, we frequently wash our hands and use sanitisers which are quite drying. To add that hydration, I like using serum on my hands for that extra pampering.!

  1. As a feet serum.!

They say feet are most ignored body part.! To show that extra love to my feet, I apply a layer of serum to my feet and let it get absorbed to get soft feet.!

  1. Finishing up with a layer of serum:

I always save some serum for the end. Post 10-15 minutes of application of sheet mask, I gently remove it. Let the serum get sinked into my skin. Post that I apply one more layer of left over serum on to my face and neck. Because, why not? haha

Hope you find these tips useful.!

Happy masking..!

DIY Spot Treatment to Cure Pimples and Acne Overnight

Pimple..!! Such nightmare huun?

Causes may differ. Some are due to hormonal changes, some due to reaction and some indicating underling health issues..!

Today I am sharing a home remedy to cure pimples/ acne. We need three ingredients to make this mask that we are going to treat as a spot treatment.

  1. Turmeric – for its antiseptic property.
  2. Fuller earth – heals pimples and fades scars.
  3. Rosewater – Again it is used because it has antibacterial properties to cure acne. If you do not have rose water handy, you can also take normal water to make the paste.

Mix the ingredients to get a paste like consistency. It should have consistency of a paste because it should neither be too thick nor too runny. In either cases application becomes difficult.!

As mentioned earlier it is a spot treatment. We are not going to apply the mask on entire face. Instead, we are going to apply only on problematic areas/ on pimples and acne.

Wait for sometime to let it dry.

Now this is optional – you can wash this away or you can leave it work on your skin overnight. I prefer second method. As the mask is already dry, it won’t mess my pillow sheets plus it gets ample amount of time to work it’s magic.!

With two to three days of usage, it is going to cure pimples.!

Mygirlypedia Note:

Some people are allergic to natural ingredients. I would suggest you to patch test before you use it on face.

Healing depends on individual body types. I have suggested this to many of my friends. For some it has worked pithing one single night. For some it too 2-3 nights. But the good news is, it worked for all.!

If you give it a try, don’t forget to give a shout-out to Mygirlypedia..!

What is The Difference Between Body Scrub and Body Polish? Review of My Most Used Body Polish

Who doesn’t like healthy, soft and plump skin? To achieve that, regularly scrubbing away dead cells would be the first step.

How much is too much? While once or twice a week is what suggested, you can do it as per your skin needs. But make sure you don’t use scrubs daily. Because, no matter how dry our skin might be, it definitely doesn’t need daily scrubbing!

Talking about body scrub let’s get to know it’s sister product- Body Polish.

So what is the difference between body scrub and body polish?
Well, they look same & technically do same task – scrubbing/ removing dead skin cells to leave your skin super soft. But there in one added benefit with body scrub.

Body scrubs exfoliate skin plus they cleanse the skin. Whereas body polish exfoliates your skin but doesn’t have cleansing property!

I have been using this body polish from the brand Dove lately (since last year to be precise.) lets’ know this
product better. Shall we?

Brand: Dove

Variant: Crushed macadamia price milk

Price: INR 699 298g

Shelf life: 20 months

Ingredients:

Packing: It comes in a white sturdy plastic packing. It is a screw lid, quite tight enough. So no worries of any spillage or breakage.

Details about the product, usage, everything is mentioned on it.

I am not a fan of tub packing for hygiene concern. But this is used while in bath so our hands are usually cleansed!! Plus this is a bit runny so can be poured out from the tub.

Fragrance: It smells like a dessert made of vanilla essence and yummy white chocolate. Trust me, every time when I open the lid, I feel like getting a spoon & start eating it. #sweettooth.

Texture: It’s neither thick nor too light. It is like a cream, a bit runny. Scrubbing /polishing granules are not
big or harsh. They are quite mild.

Experience: Even though it is mentioned on it to be used 3- 4 times a week, I use it once or max
twice a week.

My skin is quite dry. Usually skin will be left dry after exfoliation but this one is one exception. It did made my skin soft, so I can say exfoliation is done well by it. Plus, it adds a kind of moisture because of which I don’t feel the need of using a moisturises right after the bath. So my dry skin is happy.!

Pros:
1. Scrubs away dead skin cells well.
2. Smells amazing.
3. Does not dry your skin.
4.. Little goes long way.
5. Sturdy packing.

Cons:
I did not find any!!

Mygirlypedia Note:

For the job it does, for the quantity required, price is totally justifiable. Also, the product is usually on a discounted price on online store. Plus, if you have a sweet tooth, you should give this a try! So, yep, I would love to recommend this pocket friendly body care product.

Homemade Hair Mask for Your Precious Crown

Hello,

Mygirlypedia can not just stress more on the fact ‘Hair is our crown’. With our current lifestyle, food habits, our hair is something that gets more affected (of course followed by overall health..!) So to care of our crown, I am sharing one more homemade, chemical free hair care recipe.

rapunzel tangled gif girl GIF by Auaura-icebreaker;)

Just like us, our hair also needs those extra pampering sessions. Don’t you think?? Hair masks are apt for treating our hair well. Those goodness a mask adds to our hair strand and scalp makes it all worth it.

Today’s hair mask is targeting scalp issues and our biggest nightmare – hair loss.!

To begin with, let us see what are the ingredients that we need to make this mask.

1. Ghee

2. Aloe vera Gel

3. Hibiscus Petal Powder

Mygirlypedia.com

Let us see what is the role of each ingredient.

Ghee:

It is one of the sacred ingredients when it comes to Ayurveda and all the holy rituals. It has a lot of benefits to offer when consumed or when applied. First and most important one being, moisturization. When hair is dry and brittle, that is when it is weakest. Because dry frizzy hair is more prone to breakage. List of benefits of using ghee is way too long. I have one entire video filmed to explain the benefits of ghee. You can watch it here.

Aloe Vera Gel:

This ingredient doesn’t need a lot of introduction.!
Major points why this is used in this particular mask are:

1. Calms itchy scalp.

2. Deep cleanses hair.

3. Repairs and strengthens hair.

4. Helps hair growth.

If you are interested to know how to use Aloe Vera Gel for healthy eyes, lips and nail, you can read this post.

Hibiscus Petal Powder:

This is the ingredient that adds this colour to the mask. Apart from adding the tint, it has these things to offer:

1. Makes hair stronger.

2. Conditions hair.

3. Fights hair loss.

4. Prevents premature greying.

Mix the ingredients and apply it on to your hair. Leave it for 20-30 minutes. Wash it with regular cleanser/ shampoo.

Mygirlypedia Note:

1. Ghee is very moisturising. I did not feel the need to use conditioner post shampooing. Again, it depends on your hair needs. If you feel your hair needs more conditioning, follow shampoo with conditioner.

2. Ghee is also greasy. You might need more cleanser to clean it thoroughly.

Hope you find this mask useful. If you try this, please let me know your reviews too..!!

Beauty Benefits of Orange Water to Skin, Hair and Body

Hello My Beautiful Reader,

If you are not following my channel on YouTube, I have started this series called Budget Beauty. Where I list down beauty benefits of a product that you can find in your kitchen or ingredient that is in the budget.!

Today in the series, let’s talk about peel of this fruit which is loaded with vitamin C.!

Yes, I am talking about Orange peel. Next time, when you are done eating orange, instead of throwing away the peel, prepare this magical potion called orange water to get maximum benefits..!

How to prepare orange water?

Just like it’s name it’s very simple to make. You just need orange peel and water.

Take a bowl of water. Dip the peel in it. Boil the water. Once the water cools down, it’s good to be used.

How to Use it?

For Face:

As a toner or instead of regular water, use orange water to wash face.

For Body:

Mix orange water with bathing water.

For Hair:

Mix orange water with regular water that is used to wash hair.

Benefits of Using Orange Water:

Face and Body:

Aroma Therapy:

Orange water has relaxing properties. When I say relaxing, it’s not just mentally but physically as well. While yumm fresh citrus aroma relaxes your mind, content in orange water helps in relaxing muscles .

Bye Bye Dry Skin:

Dry skin beauties should give this a try. Mix orange water to your bathing water to add needed hydration to your skin.!

Exfoliation :

Exfoliation is needed in order to get soft and radiant skin. Orange water has exfoliating agents that will help you achieve those skin goals.!

Natural Toner:

Toner is the second step in the skin care mantra. If you are looking for natural and multi benefit toner, your search is over.! You can use orange water as a toner post cleansing step. Orange water purifies facial pores and helps in tightening them.

Mygirlypedia Pro Tip: I personally enjoy using orange water to wash my face instead of just a toner.

Bye Bye Acne:

Just like we had benefits mentioned for dry skin beauties, we have a benefit for sensitive skinned beauties.

If you have active acne or breakout, apply orange water. Orange water helps in drying out acne thus helping you to cure the acne.

Bye Bye Greasiness:

Orange water is not going to disappoint oily skinned beauties as it has benefit for them as well. Orange water helps in balancing the oil production. Because excess facial oil production is the cause of oiliness. When this is balanced, bye bye greasiness.!

For Skin Brightening:

If skin blemishes or discolouration is the skin issue you are facing, do try out orange water. Orange has vitamin C in it, which is a brightening agent. With regular usage, orange water is said to fade away blemishes and resulting in bright healthy skin.

As mentioned above, apart from exfoliation and adding hydration, orange water has couple of more befits to offer to your body.

Bye Bye Body Odour:

Using orange water to bath is going to help you smell fresh for long time.

Cure Body Acne:

If you have body acne, using orange water is going to dry out the acne. With regular usage, it will also help you fade away the blemishes if any.

Hair:

Healthy Scalp:

Using orange water helps in curing scalp infection. Thus making sure you have healthy scalp.

Bye Bye Dry Frizzy Hair:

Just like it adds hydration to skin, it does the same job to hair. If you have dry frizzy hair, do mix orange water to your bathing water and wash hair. Plus it will add shine to your hair..!

All You Need to Know About Facial Gua Sha Tool

What is a Gua Sha tool?
It’s a traditional Chinese medicine tool used to scrape body skin. Facial gua sha is a modified version of it.

How does it works?
It is targeting a stagnant energy in the body, that is the cause for inflammation. Rubbing the tool against the skin helps in breaking this energy, reduce inflammation and thus promotes healing. It also helps in blood circulation.
It was also believed that it helps in getting rid of body heat and negative energy.

What are they made of?
Authentic Gua sha are made of natural materials like, gem stones, animal bone, animal horn etc. Mostly used Gua sha are made of jade or rose quartz or mineral rich stone and shaped in order to fit the contours of face.

However, unlike Jade roller, Gua sha is not about the contact of the stone with skin. It’s about right scraping techniques.

What do you need to use this technique?
Firstly, a gua sha tool. Your favourite skin care product. Be it mist, serum or cream.
Apply the product before using the tool.

How to use it?
With gentle strokes, massage your face with the tool, while applying light to medium pressure. Use the flat surface more than the edge.

Order of massage would be:
1. Neck
2. Jaw line
3. Under eye are
4. Nose bridge
5. Brow bone
6. Forehead

Can we use it daily?
Professionals recommend three times a week for around 15 minutes.

Benefits:
1. Upward strokes helps in lifting and firming the skin.
2. Increased blood flow.
3. Removes stagnant lymph from tissue. This helps in reducing puffiness.
4. With regular use, reduces fine lines and wrinkles.
5. Reduces tension in face, neck and shoulder.
6. Helps in better absorption of the products.

Special Tips:
1. Always apply a cream or oil before using Gua sha. Using the tool on dry surface causes more friction and thus cause more damage to skin.
2. If you have inflammation or pimples or open wound, do not use the tool on them. Use it round them.
3. If you have sunburn, do not use the tool.
4. If you use retinol or any chemical exfoliation, you should be extra cautious while using the tool.
5. Make sure you apply little pressure. If you apply more pressure than needed, this can result in skin breakage.
6. Be careful with the edges. If the tool has any damage and has sharp edge, please get rid of the tool immediately.

My Detox Water Recipe

Detox water..!

You might have read about this magical water in Mygirlypedia before. If not give it a read here, to know why I call this magical.

We can mix different ingredients and sip this drink to get most of it. Here is the post where I will be sharing the list of ingredients I use to make detox water and benefits of each of them.

What You Need?

  • Fenugreek Seeds
  • Mint Leaves
  • Cucumber
  • Lemon
  • Glass Bottle
  • Water (Obvio) 😋

Fenugreek Seeds:

wooden scoop with fenugreek seeds

5 Fenugreek seeds.

Fenugreek/ Methi seeds have lot of health benefits. To name some:

  • Helps in weight loss
  • Improves digestion
  • Reduces cholesterol level
  • Protects heart health
  • Helps in reducing the body heat
  • Boosts immune system
  • Prevents cancer
  • Helps in dissolving kidney stones
  • Relief from stomach disorder
  • Controls Blood Sugar level

Mint Leaves:

1 (1)

5 to 6 should be enough.

Health Benefits:

  • Keeps body cool
  • Improves dental health
  • Improves blood circulation
  • Relieves muscle pain
  • Improves eye health
  • Helps to lose weight
  • Boosts immune system

Cucumber:

100-Amazing-Mixed-Wallpapers-8-70

I use half cucumber.

  • Improves digestion
  • Improves heart health
  • Promotes hydration
  • Rich in vitamin C, which is required to slow down ageing
  • Freshens breath
  • Helps to prevent kidney stones
  • It has antibacterial properties as well

Water:

Fresh water. A Liter should be more than sufficient.

Glass Bottle:

Why glass bottle? Glass because it is not only good for our planet but also for us. Glass bottles repel food odours and residual flavours. They also significantly extend the flavour and quality of food stored in them. Plus, unlike plastic these glass bottles won’t release any chemicals.

04A217A3-4B0A-48D9-A8B8-435EE8C02065

How to prepare?

It’s pretty simple. Chop and put first four ingredients into the glass bottle. Add water. Place the bottle inside fridge overnight.

Overnight – because time is required for the water to get the flavours/ for the ingredients to work.

Fridge – because drinking cold water helps in improving metabolism and helps in weight loss. Body has to work harder for the cold water to reach the normal body temperature. Thus more calories are burnt.

Consume it on an empty stomach for better results.

I can say the recipe I have is mostly for the weight loss. What’s more better than losing weight by consuming something..!!! #LazyGirlsDream

If you are also on the journey of losing weight, do add this detox water in your routine. This tastes good (thanks to lemon and mint) and you will feel fresh after consuming.

Do you have any detox water recipe that you have tried??? Please share with us in the comments. Love to try something new.

Coconut Water Rubber Mask from Sephora India | Review and Swatch

I have been obsessed with shopping at Sephora lately. I have been in love with their sheet masks for quite a sometime. Will review some soon. Also I have had heard about their rubber mask. Since I am quite new or rather I had never used one, thought of giving it a try.

They have 4 different variants available:

  • Kiwi
  • Goji
  • Charcoal
  • Coconut Water

As my skin is quite dry, I opted for the variant – coconut water. Which claims to add deep moisture. Let’s see how this works.

Price: 580 INR

Packing:

This comes in a recyclable plastic box. The box resembles a small bucket. Different variants have different coloured boxes. All the details about the product including the required quantity of water to be mixed is also been mentioned on the box.

If it is a fresh piece, it is good to be carried around while you travel. But if you open the pack, the lid is not tight enough to carry it around without worrying about spillage.

Oh yes, it also comes with a spatula to mix water and the powder.

Colour:

The mask is light cream colour.

Fragrance:

It has a very very mild fruity smell. It’s a fresh aroma.

Consistency:

The store assistant told me that after mixing water and stirring it will turn into rubber like consistency and then we need to apply on face. But that was a miscommunication/ confusion. Because once you mix water, this turns out to be a paste like consistency. After letting it work for 5 minutes (as mentioned on the packing), it will turn into rubber like consistency. That is when we will be peeling off the mask.

My Experience:

Since this was my first ever encounter with rubber mask, I didn’t know exactly how it works and what quantity I will be needing. So, I blindly followed the instructions by adding the same quantity of water mentioned on the package. Stirred the mask with the spatula that comes with it.

But then I realised how actually the mask works. I.e. from paste to rubber consistency. Also I realised that I could have used the mask multiple times as the quantity was quite more for one time use.!

Even though the water added to the mask was exactly as instructed on the package, the mask was quite thin and dripping all over the place.

Good thing is that, as claimed by the company it works within 5 minutes. After 5 minutes of application, the mask had turned quite thick like a rubber.

Usually peeling masks hurt while peeling them off. But this mask was not. It was quite easy to peel it off.

About hydration – Usually peel off masks dry my skin. Post peeling them off I need a moisturizer. But post using this mask, my skin didn’t feel any dry. So I can easily say that skin was hydrated. But I can not say that the mask has deeply hydrated my skin, like a magic. It has done a very decent job.

Pros:

  • Peeling off the mask was easy.
  • It did not dry my skin like any other peel off mask would do.
  • It added hydration to my skin.
  • Packing is quite reusable.Quantity is more for single use. You can use it multiple times if you take adequate quantity out and mix water to make the mask.
  • Does not contain harmful chemicals.
  • Plastic used for packing is recyclable. So they are doing a bit for the environment.

Cons:

  • Quantity of water mentioned on the pack is misleading. If you go with the quantity mentioned on the package, you are going to end up wasting the product like I did.
  • It didn’t add any extra or deep hydration to my skin. It has done a very decent job.
  • Falls on pricier side for a mask + the job it is doing.
  • Package once opened, can’t be carried around without worrying about spillage. As the lid is not tight enough.

Is this on my repurchase list?

No. It is a descent product. But I had more expectations for the money I paid.

Will I recommend?

It is good enough for normal skin, provided they use it multiple times by the way I have suggested above. But if you have dry skin and searching for deep hydration, go for sheet masks instead of this one.

Mygirlypedia Rating: 2/5.
