New Member to My Skin & Hair Care Routine – Hydrosol

Last year while the world witnessed a lot of ‘New Normals’, lot of things changed in beauty industry as well. More people started leaning towards skincare and less on cosmetics or makeup products. While trying to know and try some chemical free natural skincare products, I came across this holy grail called – Hydrosol.

Let’s know what is product is all about. Shall we??

First and foremost let’s see what is Hydrosol?

Hydrosol is magical water ( I mean water based product with benefits which can work like magic) made from the distillation of fresh flowers, leaves, fruits and other plant material. Doesn’t that sound wow..!

So, there are multiple types of Hydrosol available right?

Yes. There are Hydrosol made of different flowers (my favourite is Rose), many leaves are used to make Hydrosol ( I liked curry leaves one so far!!) etc.

How is the consistency?

When I said it’s magical water, like literally. When it comes to consistency, it is as light as water.

What about fragrance? Are they strong smelling one??

They have more subtle scent mostly. Again depends on the variant. For example Rose Hydrosol is more soothing fragrant (if you like fragrance of Rose), curry leaves one is kind of moderate, Lavender one can fall on slightly stronger note.

Is it similar to essential oil? If not, how are they different from essential oils?

They have a lot in common with essential oil as Hydrosols are byproduct of essential oil manufacturing process.! What makes Hydrosol different is that they are way less concentrated as compared to essential oils.

Are they supposed to be used only for skin?

No. They can be used for both skin and hair.

How to use Hydrosol?

You can spritz Hydrosol on face like toner. Can be sprayed on scalp for the betterment of scalp and hair health. It can also be used as a base for your skin care and hair care DIYs (That’s more like my deal. I love DIYs. Don’t you?? ) Plus, some Hydrosol with slightly stronger smell can be used as body mist.!

Let’s talk about most important point – What are the benefits of Hydrosol?

Hydrosol can cleanse your skin, maintain pH level and calm your skin. If you have itchy scalp, Hydrosol can help you get healthy scalp. Some are even used for hair growth as well..! Hydrosol can also be used for relaxation..!

Things to take care of before using Hydrosol.

Even though studies have proved that Hydrosol doesn’t really have any side effects, I would still ask you to do a patch test before using it. That’s because our skin reacts differently to different products, even if it natural/ chemical free one..!

DIY Papaya Face Pack to Treat Dry Skin

Hello,

The other day I bought one of my favourite fruits – papaya. More than eating it, I like to use it in my DIYs. haha

So, while I was doing my DIY face pack for my dry skin, I thought of sharing the recipe with my beautiful readers. Also, I have face pack options for oily and sensitive skinned beauties on my mind, which I am going to share on Mygirlypedia in a day or two.! If you are an oily skinned beauty or you have sensitive skin, don’t forget to follow Mygirlypedia to get updates on the DIY posts..!

What is the primary skin issue of dry skin? Absolutely no brownie points for guessing the answer alright..! Yes, it is dryness.. ! :p

To serve that primary purpose and to serve some more skin benefits, I would love to recommend this to dry skinned beauties.

All we need are three ingredients.

  1. Papaya (I meannn, obvio)
  2. Milk
  3. Honey

Let’s get to know the benefits of each ingredient:

  1. Papaya:

2-3 table spoons of mashed papaya. Benefits are:

  1. Hydrates skin.
  2. Has anti-aging properties.
  3. Gently exfoliates skin.
  4. Makes skin baby soft.
  5. Removes tan.

2. Milk:

  1. Moistures.
  2. Lightens and brightens skin.
  3. Helps to reduce wrinkles.

3. Honey:

  1. Moisturises skin without making it oily.
  2. Fades scar.

DIY Facial Cleanser for All Skin Types

Facial cleanser is something that we use to cleanse or clean our face. That can be a face wash, soap or even a liquid cleanser.

Finding a cleanser that suits our skin is also a tricky job. What if I say I have a cleanser recipe that will not only cleanses your face but also has added benefits to offer? Most of all, it is budget friendly and can be prepared at home..!

Let’s make our own cleanser. Shall we? All You need are two kitchen ingredients.

Tomato Juice:

Since tomato is slightly acidic in nature, sensitive skinned beauties can skip this ingredient, as it might cause tingling or burning sensation.!

  1. Known for its cleansing and bleaching properties.
  2. Helps in removing unevenness in skin tone.
  3. Helps in tightening skin pores.
  4. Reduces extra oiliness/ greasiness.
  5. Treats sun burns.
  6. Removes tanning.

Milk:

If you are allergic to lactic acid, I would suggest you to do a patch test before trying milk on your face.

  1. Adds moisture.
  2. Lactic acid helps in the fight against acne.
  3. Helps in reducing dark spots.
  4. Acts as a mild scrub and removes dead skin cells.

How To Prepare:

Take both the ingredients in the required quantity and mix.

How to Use:

  1. Dip a cotton pad/ ball in the cleanser.
  2. Pat it on your face.
  3. Let the cleanser do the magic on your face for couple of minutes.

  5. Wash with regular water.

Forest Essentials Tejasvi Brightening Emulsion Review and Swatches

Hello Beautiful,

Skin covers your entire body. If you invest in your skin, it is going to represent you..!

Being a skin care enthusiast, I love trying out new skin care products. Products that say Ayurvedic or natural, I am sold for it.! One of such brands that is on my favourite list is Forest Essentials – Luxurious Ayurveda..! (See, Ayurveda..!)

While I have tried good number of skin care products from their range, many have worked out and some haven’t. Today I am reviewing one of those products from the brand. Keep reading to know whether it worked for me or not.!

Brand : Forest Essentials.

Price : 2175 INR for 30 g or 1.05 oz.

Shelf Life : 23 Months.

Is This Cruelty Free? Yes

Is This Recyclable? Yes

Ingredients / What Does Company Claims? / How to Use :

Please note that the ingredients list is not mentioned here. Mentioned here is the composition/ major ingredients.!

Packing : Brand’s tag line itself says ‘ Luxurious Ayurveda’, packing stands quite true to it.

The outer carton is made of hard cardboard. The glossy finished, gold design gives that luxurious look. As you can see the brand logo is printed on the carton along with couple of traditional dancing ladies. The flower print adds the charm to this design. All the details about the product, usage are printed on the bottom side of this same carton.

Product comes in dark and sturdy glass bottle. I must say, no matter how fancier the plastic packing may be, but a glass packing is the classier one.! Gold lid with brown glass combo looks classy. Glass is in deed sturdy. As a clumsy person, I have tested it by dropping it couple of times.!

Colour : Somewhere between maroon and brown.

Fragrance : It has a strong fragrance of ghee and something sort of sweet note. Even though the fragrance is noticeable, it fades after application. As the fragrance is not over empowering, it should be ok for sensitive nose I believe.

Consistency : Balm like consistency.

Swatches :

My Experience :

I have dry skin that needs extra hydration. I thought of buying this particular product for its description and the base ingredient of it – Ghee. Ghee is very useful when it comes to treating dry skin. I used the product just like the way it is mentioned on the packing.

As soon as you open the jar, first thing you notice is its fragrance. I kinda liked the fragrance. It did not bother me at all. Consistency is perfect for facial massage. It’s a balm consistency. Neither runny nor sticky.

Thing I loved the most is that it did what it claimed. It added the moisture. My skin was visibly hydrated and plump.

Even though the product name says its emulsion, it is a balm. It is quite thick and heavy. That’s why even though I have dry skin, I prefer using it twice a week, not more than that. If you have oily or sensitive skin, I would suggest you to skip this.

Pros :

  1. Does what it claims. Adds good amount of hydration. Leaves skin soft and plump.
  2. Balm consistency is perfect for good facial massage.
  3. Sturdy packing.
  4. Little goes long way. Single jar is going to last for months.
  5. Did not break my skin.
  6. It is cruelty free. No animal was harmed in the process of making this product.
  7. Product is recyclable.

Cons :

  1. Tub packing is not hygienic as we have to make sure our fingers are super clean before taking out the product. Else, we are just transferring bacteria into the jar.!
  2. Some might find it pricy. (Quantity required is less for each use and as it did what it claimed, I am not complaining about the price.)
  3. Whole ingredients list is not mentioned.

Mygirlypedia Rating : 4.5/5

Mygirlypedia Note: If you have dry skin and need of good moisturising product, plus if you have budget, you must give this a try. If you have oily or sensitive skin, this balm might be heavier on your skin. Which in turn might cause breakouts. I would suggest you to give a patch test or completely skip this product.

Take a bowl of water. Dip the peel in it. Boil the water. Once the water cools down, it’s good to be used.

For Body:

Mix orange water with bathing water.

For Hair:

Mix orange water with regular water that is used to wash hair.

Benefits of Using Orange Water:

Face and Body:

Aroma Therapy:

Orange water has relaxing properties. When I say relaxing, it’s not just mentally but physically as well. While yumm fresh citrus aroma relaxes your mind, content in orange water helps in relaxing muscles .

Bye Bye Dry Skin:

Dry skin beauties should give this a try. Mix orange water to your bathing water to add needed hydration to your skin.!

Exfoliation :

Exfoliation is needed in order to get soft and radiant skin. Orange water has exfoliating agents that will help you achieve those skin goals.!

Natural Toner:

Toner is the second step in the skin care mantra. If you are looking for natural and multi benefit toner, your search is over.! You can use orange water as a toner post cleansing step. Orange water purifies facial pores and helps in tightening them.

Mygirlypedia Pro Tip: I personally enjoy using orange water to wash my face instead of just a toner.

Bye Bye Acne:

Just like we had benefits mentioned for dry skin beauties, we have a benefit for sensitive skinned beauties.

If you have active acne or breakout, apply orange water. Orange water helps in drying out acne thus helping you to cure the acne.

Bye Bye Greasiness:

Orange water is not going to disappoint oily skinned beauties as it has benefit for them as well. Orange water helps in balancing the oil production. Because excess facial oil production is the cause of oiliness. When this is balanced, bye bye greasiness.!

Just like it adds hydration to skin, it does the same job to hair. If you have dry frizzy hair, do mix orange water to your bathing water and wash hair. Plus it will add shine to your hair..!

All You Need to Know About BB Creams

If you have been following me on Instagram, you already know which cream I use for daily purpose.

Some of you had few queries regarding BB creams. So this short yet informative post will help you with those queries.

Let’s start with a very basic question.

What does BB stands for?

BB stands for Blemish Balm or Beauty Balm.

What is a BB cream?

BB cream is a tinted cream which covers skin imperfections like a foundation, adds moisture like a moisturizer and protects skin from harmful sunrays like a sunscreen.

What Does a BB Cream Do?

It’s all in cream. It adds moisture, soothe skin, hide scars, protects from sunrays, brightens and adds glow, even out skin tone.

Some BB creams also have the ingredients to fight against aging.

Origin:

It was introduced by a German doctor 50 years ago. The prime purpose was to heal skin, cover the scars.

Isn’t a BB cream a kind of Foundation?

Foundation is slightly heavier as compared to BB cream. The coverage that a foundation provides is more than a BB cream. As BB cream is lighter, it gives light to medium coverage.

Difference between tinted moisturizer and BB cream:

Tinted moisturizer adds moisture to skin while adding glow or covering the skin issues slightly. BB cream is thicker than tinted moisturizer. It adds some moisture while covering skin imperfections and adding glow to skin.

What sort of finish does a BB cream gives?

Some BB creams give you dewy finish and some give you matte one.

How to apply BB cream?

Like any other cream, you can use your clean finger tips or beauty applicators to apply it on your face.

BB cream for daily usage:

Well the good news is, the BB cream can help you skip couple of products. BB cream sooth the skin. Hence you can skip Primer, if you use one. As mentioned earlier, it adds moisture so you can skip applying moisturiser. BB cream with full coverage can let you say bye to your concealer as well.

Apply BB cream on cleansed face if you have oily or normal skin. If you have dry skin and feel more moisture is needed, you can apply a moisturizer and then apply BB cream.

Even though BB cream does protects our skin from harmful sun rays, it might or might not do the work as efficient as a sunscreen. If you are going to spend whole day out in sun, I would suggest you to wear your favourite sunscreen over the BB cream for more protection.

How will I find a right BB cream for my skin?

BB cream comes in different shades. Do check the shades by applying the testers available in any shops. Because if the shade goes wrong, it might make you look a shade dark or pale.

For skin type, got to check the description of the BB creams about the benefits it is offering. In order to find the right one, you might have to just try few to find out the right one. Because dry skin needs more moisture and oily skin needs matte finished one.

Hope this helps. If you have any more queries, do ask in the comment section. Happy to help 😊

All You Need to Know About Orange Oil

I have been hearing a lot about vitamin C and essentials oils etc. Which help in taking care of skin not only by improving it’s texture but also aid the anti-aging process. So, just thought of gathering more information about them, so that I can include in my daily skin care regime and of course to share with you beautiful people.

For today, I am starting with one of the essential oils – Orange oil.

Let’s see how it’s going to help our skin and hair. Ready??? Hop in…!

How to Prepare Orange Oil at Home???

First thing first. How to prepare orange oil.

  • Peel off the orange peel and remove the white part by scratching. This will make sure the oil is more concentrated.
  • Place these peels in a glass jar.
  • Add vodka to the jar and shake well. Vodka helps to marinate.
  • Keep the jar in cold and dark place for a week.
  • After a week, filter out the liquid from the jar.
  • Place this liquid in ventilated space so that the alcohol in the liquid gets evaporated.
  • Post 2 to 3 days, the liquid free of alcohol smell is what we need – orange oil.

I know it takes a lot of time and patience to prepare one at home. But it is purest one you can get. No matter how good it can be, some are too lazy to wait for long. So, people like me, just go and buy one from online. hehe

How does it smell???

It smells like orange (obviously) but a very strong one.

Why You Should Use Orange Oil???

Mental health:

You must be thinking I started with the beauty benefits and first point says mental health. Well, well, if you are happy inside, your skin looks happy outside. Orange oil has this amazing fragrance which has proven to reduce depression or anxiety. It calms down the pulses and helps you relax. Now when you are calm and content from within, it definitely shows on your skin as well.

Treating Acne and Skin Infection:

Orange oil has anti-bacterial and inflammatory properties. Using diluted orange oil on acne, swelling or redness helps in soothing it.

Moisturizing:

Orange oil has been proved to add needed moisture to your skin when applied. Dry skin beauties, I hope you are listening.

Deep Cleanser:

Orange oil helps in cleaning the facial pores and thus avoids clogging.

Improves Blood Flow:

If you apply orange oil it gives slight tingling effect. Orange oil helps in improving blood flow thus helps you get glowing skin.

Anti-Aging:

You already know that the oil has anti-bacterial property. What you might not know is that orange oil also has antioxidants in it. Which are important to slow down the process of aging. This oil helps in stopping the appearance of lines and wrinkles on skin.

Reducing Dark Spots:

Orange oil has bleaching property. Which helps in lightening the skin tone. Regular usage of diluted orange oil on dark spots should fade them away.

Reducing Large Pores:

While keeping the pores super clean, it also helps in shrinking them. How??? Orange oil has tightening property, which helps in shrinking the facial pores.

Reduces Cellulite:

Many of us suffer from appearance of cellulite. Orange oil can be a handy if you also suffer from the same. Massaging the affected area with diluted orange oil helps in blood flow, softens the epidermis and thus helping in reducing the cellulite.

Reduces extra oil secretion:

I hope this point will bring a smile on oily skinned beauties. Using diluted orange oil on skin that secrets more oil helps in reducing that extra oil secretion. Orange oil has this charm to control the oil secretion. So bye bye shiny face.

Special Note:

  • Always remember that the essential oils should not be used directly on skin. You need to dilute the oil by mixing with some carrier oil like coconut oil/ almond oil and then use it on skin.
  • It is not recommended to use orange oil while you are out in sun. Orange oil when comes in contact with direct sun, reacts and it might harm your skin.

Why You Should Add Rice and Banana Powder To Your Makeup Bag

Hey Beautiful,

Makeup or the beauty industry is huge and interesting. There is always one or the other new trend, new product that enters every single day. Some make the world go crazy, some might not. Some become the trend of the year some become disasters. Today I am going to talk about couple of products I found interesting when I heard about them.

Rice Powder:

The first product I am talking about is rice powder. Ummm as the name suggests it is inspired by the rice powder or flour. Rice flour is a good oil absorbent thus a boon for oily skinned girls. It absorbs the extra oil and thus saying bye to the shiny/ greasy face.

When I say it is ‘inspired’, obviously I am not talking about using rice powder as a cosmetic because if we do so, we will end up looking like a ghost.

There are multiple brands who have introduced this product called rice powder to the market. They come in different colour shades to match different skin tones.

Rice powder is basically lose powder, applied on face for a flawless look. You can say they work like compact powder. Applied post applying foundation. To absorb extra oil and for a flawless, matte finish. So, if you have oily T-Zone, do try rice powder.

Banana Powder:

Even a famous celebrity like Kim Kardashian has this in her ‘makeup must’ list. So, what is banana powder???

Banana powder is again a lose powder but of yellow under tone. This is usually used as a corrector to correct or to hide unevenness of skin. Typically used above the concealer. You can use banana powder as a highlighter as well. This also suitable to be used all over the face post applying the foundation. Banana powder gives you a flawless, highlighted finished look.

So, this was one of the quickest post on my blog. Hope you find it interesting.

Facial Cleansing Brush : New Entrant in The World of Skin Care

I had a gooooood shopping marathon this weekend. Ahhh happiest girl on earth while I pick my shopping bags up.

Skin care being the important factor, picked up some skin care products. Face cleansing brush being one among them.

If you live in Instagram for most of the time of your day, I am pretty sure you must have come across some of the people using this cute little round/oval brush on their face. These brushes are called facial cleansing brushes. As the name suggests, they are used to clean the face.

These brushes are originated from Sweden. Used as a part of skin care routine to get super clean skin.

Let me just quickly walk you through more details like how to use, where to buy from etc. etc. Shall we???

Why???

Facial-Cleasing-Brush-1.jpg
Let me start with the basic question – why facial brush??? So, the brush acts like tiny fingers which cleanse each and every tiny pores on your face. Thus leaving skin super clean while unclogging pores. Which in turn helps in preventing clogged pores and breakouts. Result??? Blemish free skin….!!!

How to use???

Foreo Luna Play Review (1).JPG
You need a good cleanser to start with. Apply cleanser on your face or take few drop of it on cleansing brush. Brush against your face gently in circular motion. Don’t forget to cover entire face(Of course skip the eyes and mouth area. haha.) Once you are done, wash your face. Ohhh hello clean face.

Types of Facial Brushes:

There are different types of facial brushes available as per the skin needs and the material used to prepare one. Here are some of the well known types,

Bristle:

DSC_0708.jpg
These are the very basic ones when it comes to facial or body brush. As the bristles fall on harder side, they are well suited for dry skin. They help in scrubbing off dead skin cells while cleansing the facial pores. I use one from The Body Shop. The bristle is quite soft and does good job.

You can buy one from here.
Silicon Brush:

These are squeaky smooth brushes with tiny silicon touch points which are responsible for cleansing your skin. These silicon brushes come in different sizes and shapes. Some have handles some may not. The one I recently bought is a silicon brush from the brand Forever 21.

Buy one here.

Electronic:

715Ne3Wi7CL._SL1500_.jpg
These brushes are considered to be an ‘investment’. As they fall on slightly pricier side and does a good job. The facial brushes which are in trend are mostly electronic one. They run either on battery or with electric power. The electronic ones have both types that is silicon brush as well as bristle head. Best part about these is they are automatic, you don’t have to put in that extra effort to massage your face. Turn on the machine and the vibration that’s generated does all the magic. They will come handy especially when you are super tired at the end of the day. A good massage is all we need to relax ourselves. Don’t we???

Thinking of buying one??? Here you go.

Let’s see what are the advantages of using the facial brush:

  • They leave skin super cleansed
  • Skin gets softer
  • With regular use, skin texture gets improved
  • Bristle brushes help in removing dead skin cells thus helping dry skinned beauties
  • They improve blood circulation
  • As they unclog the pores, blemishes or breakouts will be reduced.

landscape_nrm_1434362694-cleansing-brush.jpg
Disadvantages:

  • Bristle brush with hard bristles are not suitable for girls with sensitive skin or with breakouts.
  • If the proper hygiene is not maintained, you might end up doing bad than good to your skin.
  • A type of facial brush might not work on all types of skin. Choosing brush as per skin type is important.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Make sure you dip the bristle brush in water for a while before using. This will make sure that the bristles are wet and soft. Thus making sure they won’t hurt your facial skin.
  • If your skin is dry you can use the facial brush 2-3 times a week(if you choose bristle one.)or daily(if you choose silicon one).
  • Choose the number of times you want to use the facial brush as per your skin needs. Do not overdo.
  • Clean your brush after every use to avoid bacteria growth and causing harm to your skin.
  • Do not share the facial brush with anyone.
  • If you are using electronic brush with changeable bristle head, make sure you change them once in a month or so. Because no matter how much you maintain hygiene, there is a good chance that bacteria grow in between the bristles. Hence it is advised to change the bristle head.

Do you use facial brush for cleansing??? If the answer is yes, which one do you use??? If not, I hope this post tempts you to buy one.

Health and Beauty Benefits of Sea Water

Are you a mountain person or a beach one??? I love both. I discover my inner self between mountains and I find enormous happiness when I play with the waves. Looking at the huge sea/ ocean/ mountain makes me realise how tiny I am in this huge world…!!!

Apart from making us happy and taking care of our mental health, the sea makes our skin more healthy. Did you know that??? Yes, it does. How??? Let me tell you.

Sea water has lots of minerals in it. Which has been proved that it cures many skin issues. I have even heard my granny saying that, wearing accessories made of sea shells can also help to cure skin disorders. Isn’t it amazing??? Making skin healthier with some natural remedies, ahhh sounds perfect to me.

Love-Heart-on-Beach-HD-Wallpaper

Let me list down some more advantages of sea water to our skin and hair.

  • Cures various skin disorders:
As I said earlier, it does cure the skin diseases but how??? Well, sea water contains magnesium, calcium, and potassium in it. Which are the reasons for this magical property of salt water. Sea water absorbs toxins from the skin and bacteria which causes acne thus making skin clear in the long run. It is also proved to cure infection and encouraging healing process.

  • Boosts Immune System:
Salt water increases oxygen level in the blood thus strengthening the immune system of the body.

  • Thyroid:
Iodine content of sea water helps in boosting thyroid activity.

  • Bye bye Cold and Flu:
It also relieve cold and flu symptoms, as well asΒ to cureΒ bronchitis and sinusitis.

  • Treats oily skin:
Sea water absorbs extra oil from the skin. Thus preventing overproduction of natural oil which if not treated might clog the pores resulting in breakouts.
If you are a dry skinned beauty, you really need to apply a good moisturizer post your visit to sea water. Because you don’t want to end up with itchy skin due to lack of moisture.

  • Used for good oral health:
Most of you must be familiar with this remedy. Whenever you are suffering from tooth ache, someone must have advised you to gargle mouth with salt water. The reason being, the salt water has anti bacterial property which kills the bacteria which is troubling you.
Even when you are not in any teeth trouble, you can use the salt water as a mouth wash in order to maintain good oral health.
Plus, certain studies say that it cures oral conditions like gingivitis and halitosis also.

  • To exfoliate dry skin:
Minerals in the sea water helps in scrubbing the skin cells gently thus unclogging pores and increasing the blood circulation. These open pores are further cleansed by the minerals which in turn helps in better absorption of the product applied on skin later that.

  • Relieves muscle pain:
You might have seen people dipping their feet in the tub full of warm salt water to get rid of the pain. The magnesium present in the salt water helps in relieving the muscle pain.

  • Beach waves:
We try so many methods, with and without heat to get those dreamy wavy hair. Do you know which is the easiest way to achieve that? One dip in the sea can make you achieve those beach waves. I know not everyone can afford to visit beach everyday. A quick replacement is a spray bottle and salted water. Spraying salt water to hair should also serve the purpose.

So, these were some of the prominent benefits of sea water.

Like I said, not everyone live by the seashore. Visiting one might not be a daily business. So you can try mixing table salt with water to get some benefits. But I must say, sea water is more effective than any other ones.

Standing-In-Beach-At-Sunset

If you have any skin issues and want to try out salt water bath, you can try some amazing salts with healing properties. Which we call it as Bath salts. You can read this post where I have mentioned what and how does bath salts work.
