My Detox Water Recipe

Detox water..!

You might have read about this magical water in Mygirlypedia before. If not give it a read here, to know why I call this magical.

We can mix different ingredients and sip this drink to get most of it. Here is the post where I will be sharing the list of ingredients I use to make detox water and benefits of each of them.

What You Need?

  • Fenugreek Seeds
  • Mint Leaves
  • Cucumber
  • Lemon
  • Glass Bottle
  • Water (Obvio) ūüėč

 

Fenugreek Seeds:

5 Fenugreek seeds.

Fenugreek/ Methi seeds have lot of health benefits. To name some:

  • Helps in weight loss
  • Improves digestion
  • Reduces cholesterol level
  • Protects heart health
  • Helps in reducing the body heat
  • Boosts immune system
  • Prevents cancer
  • Helps in dissolving kidney stones
  • Relief from stomach disorder
  • Controls Blood Sugar level

 

Mint Leaves:

1 (1)

5 to 6 should be enough.

  • Keeps body cool
  • Improves dental health
  • Improves blood circulation
  • Relieves muscle pain
  • Improves eye health

Cucumber:

I use half cucumber.

Lemon:

Half slice should be enough.

Benefits:

  • Helps in weight loss
  • Improves digestion
  • Improves heart health
  • Promotes hydration
  • Rich in vitamin C, which is required to slow down ageing
  • Freshens breath
  • Helps to prevent kidney stones
  • It has antibacterial properties as well

 

Water:

Fresh water. A Liter should be more than sufficient.

Glass Bottle:

Why glass bottle? Glass because it is not only good for our planet but also for us. Glass bottles repel food odours and residual flavours. They also significantly extend the flavour and quality of food stored in them. Plus, unlike plastic these glass bottles won’t release any chemicals.

How to prepare?

It’s pretty simple. Chop and put first four ingredients into the glass bottle. Add water. Place the bottle inside fridge overnight.

Overnight – because time is required for the water to get the flavours/ for the ingredients to work.

Fridge – because drinking cold water helps in improving metabolism and helps in weight loss. Body has to work harder for the cold water to reach the normal body temperature. Thus more calories are burnt.

Consume it on an empty stomach for better results.

I can say the recipe I have is mostly for the weight loss. What’s more better than losing weight by consuming something..!!! #LazyGirlsDream

Are you a mountain person or a beach one??? I love both. I discover my inner self between mountains and I find enormous happiness when I play with the waves. Looking at the huge sea/ ocean/ mountain makes me realise how tiny I am in this huge world…!!!

Apart from making us happy and taking care of our mental health, the sea makes our skin more healthy. Did you know that??? Yes, it does. How??? Let me tell you.

Sea water has lots of minerals in it. Which has been proved that it cures many skin issues. I have even heard my granny saying that, wearing accessories made of sea shells can also help to cure skin disorders. Isn’t it amazing??? Making skin healthier with some natural remedies, ahhh sounds perfect to me.

Let me list down some more advantages of sea water to our skin and hair.

  • Cures various skin disorders:
    As I said earlier, it does cure the skin diseases but how??? Well, sea water contains magnesium, calcium, and potassium in it. Which are the reasons for this magical property of salt water. Sea water absorbs toxins from the skin and bacteria which causes acne thus making skin clear in the long run. It is also proved to cure infection and encouraging healing process.

 

  • Boosts Immune System:
    Salt water increases oxygen level in the blood thus strengthening the immune system of the body.

    Iodine content of sea water helps in boosting thyroid activity.

Like I said, not everyone live by the seashore. Visiting one might not be a daily business. So you can try mixing table salt with water to get some benefits. But I must say, sea water is more effective than any other ones.

Kardashians..!!! Half of the world at least knows who they are… If you don’t belong to that half, let me introduce them to you. There is this English reality show called “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”. It’s like being with them 24 X 7. Listening to ‘everything’ they talk. What do they talk??? Everything…!!! You can imagine everything a ‘modern’ family would discuss. In one sentence – you can keep your brain at rest while watching this show. Absolutely no brain required to watch this show. You know what’s the surprising part of this whole family drama is, they have earned a lot more than you must be thinking by this show. Its already 10 seasons old and all have earned millions.

Couple of years ago all these 5 sisters have launched their personal mobile apps.. Where each one of them post their beauty, fitness secrets and details of their wardrobe. You must have read about Kylie cosmetics on my blog before. Kylie is the youngest daughter of this Kardashian family.

In one of those beauty apps of theirs, I came across this beauty drink called – apple cider vinegar (Courtesy- Instagram). Kourtney Kardashian swears that she starts her day by drinking apple cider vinegar. After making my home work about this, I have started drinking this every morning. Since I know most of the things about it now, thought of sharing it with you guys.

What is Apple Cider Vinegar???

Apple cider vinegar, also known as cider vinegar /ACV, is a type of vinegar made from cider or apple.

How does it looks and tastes like???

It has pale to medium amber color and sour in taste. IMPORTANT thing is, its highly concentrated. It’s pungent, can even irritate your eyes. So, ALWAYS dilute before you consume.

A research was conducted where 1st specimen was not allowed to have Apple Cider Vinegar(ACV) in his diet, whereas the other one was allowed to. At the end of the study it was found that the one who was consuming ACV had drop in cholesterol level.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Green Tea

One of my intentions of this year being the healthier and fitter version myself, I have started with some of good healthy habits. One among them is drinking green tea…!!! Yes. weight loss or fitness discussion is incomplete without mentioning this magical drink called green tea. I have seen and heard people consuming this tea without knowing what actually it does to our body. How it actually works… Everybody knows that green tea is healthiest drink for body. But, what not everybody knows that drinking green tea has disadvantages also…!!!

I have gathered some information from people who have been consuming this ‘healthy’ drink since good long time and from other resources. Let me share you the information I got about Green tea.

Green tea’s origin:

Green tea is mostly popular in eastern countries like Japan, Thailand, India etc.

From where green tea is extracted:

Different types of tea powder are prepared from Camellia sinensis plant. The dried leaves and leaf buds are powdered to prepare tea powder. Different types of tea powder preparation involves different processioning methods. Well, our topic of the day Рgreen tea, is prepared by steaming and pan-frying these leaves and then drying them.

What it contains???

Green tea contains two to four percent of caffeine. Also contains antioxidants.

How to prepare green tea???

There are many brands out there who offer a lot many flavored and unflavored green tea powders and tea bags. Just the way you prepare regular tea, instead of regular tea powder you will have to add green tea powder to milk. But if you are aiming for weight loss, do skip milk and sugar. Just hot water and green tea powder should be enough. If you didn’t like the taste, you can add natural sweetener like honey. Skip sugar my dear honey.

How  does it tastes???

I have started using Lipton green tea – Tulsi flavor. You just have to dip green tea bag in a cup of hot water for few minutes and close your eyes and drink. Closing your eyes is optional. haha. But, honestly it doesn’t tastes good but health comes before taste you know…!!!

How to consume green tea rightly???

This is something really important in order to get most out of this healthy drink.

  • Maximum quantity of green tea per day is 1200 ml, i.e. not more than 5 cups.
  • Green tea should not be consumed on empty stomach as¬†it might cause liver toxicity.
  • If you have any medical history or pregnant, consultation about preferred quantity is must.
  • Never sip it in night unless you work as a watchman who is expected to be awake the whole night. You know what I mean.
  • Do not consume right after your meal. At least two hours of difference should be there between meal and green tea consumption. Because green tea doesn’t let your body consume the iron and other beneficial contents from the meal.
  • Consume loads of water on consuming green tea. You will find out why in the disadvantage section below.

Advantages of Drinking green tea:

These are the advantages you will get if you consume green tea rightly.

  • Improves mental alertness.
  • It increases urine output. Thus helps in getting rid of toxins from the body. Detoxification is so important in order to keep body healthy. You can check this post about how to detox body in different ways.¬†
  • Weight loss
  • Good for skin
  • Stomach disorders
  • Good home remedy for vomiting, diarrhea, headache and bone loss
  • It has been proved that it has anti cancer property. Helps in preventing different types of cancer.
  • Helpful to keep your heart safe from diseases(not from other hear breaks though). Like, blood pressure, blood vessels issues etc.

  • Good for diabetic patients.
  • Parkinson’s disease can also be prevented.
  • Dental cavities and kidney stones can be avoided by drinking green tea.

Advantages of Applying Green Tea:

  • You can also apply green tea on your face to soothe skin.
  • It also controls the damage done by exposure to sun.
  • Puffiness under eyes??? Place a wet green tea bag under your eyes. Puffiness will disappear in some time.

  • You can also add green tea to the water tub while you are getting pedicure. Along with soothing foot it can also cure athlete’s feet.
  • Green tea can also be applied on gums to stop the bleeding when tooth extraction is done.

Disadvantages of  Drinking Green tea:

Green tea is not as easy as you think it is. It should be consumed rightly in right quantity. Else it will more bad than good to you. If you consume the tea in access quantity all of a sudden, you are inviting more trouble. Here are lesser known facts about it.

  • As I said green tea do contains caffeine. This is not a good content for those individual who have anxiety problems or for those ladies who are pregnant. Hence quantity to consumed should be decided after a consultation from a doctor.
  • If you exceed the limit of green tea intake per day, you will end up upsetting your stomach plus it might also cause¬†nausea.
  • You know, green tea dehydrates your body??? Yes. You will have to drink more and more water if you consume green tea in order to balance the water content in the body.
  • It can increase anemia.
  • If you have¬†glaucoma, green tea does increases pressure inside eyes. Thus worsening the condition.
  • Green tea may prohibit calcium from being absorbed into the bones thus resulting in¬†osteoporosis.
  • Green tea can decrease the ability of your body to absorb iron content. Thus iron deficiency…!!
  • Might cause insomnia.
  • Caffeine can be more hazardous. It might end up irregular heart beats.
  • Green tea causes oxidative stress. Which might result in vomiting.
  • Excessive caffeine consumption has also been linked to muscle spasms and twitching.

Heartburn-pregnancy

  • Caffeine has also been linked to restless leg syndrome.
  • Green tea is acidic. It might you suffer from heartburn.
  • A study was conducted where¬†green tea extract was found to significantly accelerate the onset of convulsions.
  • Caffeine in green tea can increase the risk of bleeding. Hence those who have bleeding disorders, stay away from green tea.
  • Green tea quite confusing I must say. There are studies which contradict each other, One study says green tea decreases diabetes and headaches. Whereas the other study says it increases them.
  • If green tea is consumed in higher quantity, it will damage liver.
  • The commonest skin allergies associated with green tea consumption are eczema and hives.
  • Green tea higher consumption results in kidney disorder.
  • Thyroid problems might also be caused.
  • One study states that consuming green tea too often can lower fertility.
  • Green tea does improve oral health but it also¬†stains your teeth. Ooops…!!!

So, these are the points I wanted to share with you my dear reader.

I know disadvantage list is longer than the advantage list. But, green tea is not harmful at all if it is consumed in moderation. Right quantity, right way will achieve the best.

Now you know all about green tea. Please spread the world about this because I know more people who blindly consume green tea in order to lose weight faster. Simple Steps to Follow This Year, for Better Health and Beauty

Well, my pretty reader – since we are in a very new year, we all are energised, happy and hopeful for something good this year. Let’s take some steps to achieve the best of ourselves. Sounds good??? Cool. Lets do this.

I have a post for you today which will list down all the small yet good steps which we need to take in order to get the awesome results.¬†You know you are not too old to dream a new dream and to set a new goal for yourself. right???¬† Try to include these steps¬† everyday. Come on, theses are very simple. You can do it. Or, let me rephrase it as – ‘We’¬† can do it.

Shall we start???

Health comes first. Lets start with easy breezy steps to improve health.

Physical Health Tips:

  • Drink more water.( Don’t yawn plz. I know you have been reading this a lot. Its time to practice it)
  • Eat healthy. (Stop yawning)
  • Instead of asking you to eliminate junk food from your diet, let me put it this way. Lets challenge ourselves not to eat junk food for 2 days, then eventually increase that to a week, a month. I¬† myself a huge junk food addict. I have made my mind to train it by accepting such challenges. Hello, if I win??? I am gonna treat myself with some junk food. haha that is how we treat an addict.
  • Start your day with a glass of warm water and honey.
  • Are you a chocolate lover like me??? I am replacing my chocolates with dark chocolates. Because dark chocolates with more than 70% cocoa have more antioxidants. Are you with me in this ‘mission dark chocolate’???
  • Exercise. I am not asking you to pay for gym membership. We can do it right from where we are sitting. Just stretching, some leg exercises while you are seated on your chair, instead of taking elevator take stairs. I personally prefer stairs not only because its an easy workout, but its less crowded, peaceful and you get to breath some fresh air unlike in an elevator(you know what I mean).
  • Chew your food. Haha it sounds like a strict mommy’s dialogue. But jokes apart gal, we need to chew our food properly in order to ease the digestion process and to get more benefits from the food.
  • Brush your teeth twice daily. Oral health is very important. We tend to neglect that which results in bad breath and poor teeth condition. When all is good, we don’t get it. But when you suffer from teeth ache, then you realise all the bad things you did to your teeth. #karma haha
  • While Brushing, you can do some squats to utilize that time. Time saving huun??

Mental Health:

If you agree or not, most of us are hesitant and ignorant about mental happiness. Let’s not make that mistake this year. Because everything starts and ends at your mental health. If you are mentally fit, it will reflect in your physical health.

  • Make some time for yourself. Spend it on doing what you like. Be it self care, any hobby, cooking any thing.
  • Take a walk outside. Observe the world around you. When you are feeling low, even a small ant can be inspiring enough to lift you up. Ant falls while carrying a food particle which is much more bigger than it’s own size. But ant never gives up.
  • Spend time with old citizens, kids or pets. They help you forget all the stress.
  • Compliment or help some unknown people. Try it. You will know that kind of happiness.
  • Dance to your favorite music. You don’t have to be a professional dancer to enjoy the music. Just move your body to the beats(or off beats) the point is to enjoy it.
  • Sing. You are not participating in any music competition. There are no judges. Even if the people around you is trying to judge you, just ask them one question – what is the winning amount ??? #wink
  • Stressed??? I have a quick solution – Breath…!!!
  • Plan a vacation with loved ones. Be it a little one or big plan. Do it.
  • As they say there is always good in a bad day. Write down things you are thankful for at the end of the day.
  • Reduce the time you spend in the virtual world of social media.
  • Importantly – Smilllleeeee…..!!!!

Beauty Resolutions:

  • Take care of your skin.
  • Irrespective of weather, do not skip sunscreen.
  • Never go to bed with your makeup on. Plz.
  • I know we love our girl-friends. But plz stop sharing your makeup with them. You are not doing any good to yourself or to them. Sharing used makeup can harm your skin more.
  • Do not compromise on the products you use for your skin.
  • Maintain good hygiene to maintain good skin.
  • Clean your phone screen. It has maximum number of bacteria which can harm your skin.
  • Good sleep is a must.
  • You deserve a spa session at least once a month. You don’t have to make a hole in pocket by booking an appointment in a well known spa. You just make use of the ‘search’ box at the end of this page and get to know how to do facial, bath salts for that long relaxing bath, hair spa etc. at home…!!!
  • Most important tip – love yourself. You are an original creation. Do not try to imitate and be a copy.

So, these are some of the things lets try to implement in our daily routine.

Let’s start with our crown… !!!

  1. For hair straightening:

Yes you read it right…!!! You can skip those hair damaging hot tools and use a natural recipe to get your hair straightened. All you need is coconut oil and lemon juice. You need to refrigerate this mixture for an hour to get thick paste. Apply the paste on to your hair and wait for 15 minutes. Wash it and comb your hair using wide tooth comb. Wow… Your hair is straightened magically…!!! (Girls with curly hair might need one more ingredient, ‘patience’. haha Natural methods takes bit more time. But trust me girls their results are amazing and harmless. )

  1. Cure for Dandruff:

Uff dandruff…!!! nightmare You can use citric acid to cure the dandruff. Mix water and lemon juice to dilute it. Apply the diluted lemon juice to your scalp for 10 minutes and rinse with cold water. You can also replace water with olive/coconut oil for added moisture.

  1. Treating oily scalp:

Tired of oily scalp??? Your super hero might be lying somewhere in your kitchen. hehe Mix lemon juice into your shampoo and conditioner. Let lemon juice do its wonder by absorbing oiliness.

  1. To prevent hair loss:

Make a paste of lemon juice, vinegar, powdered cumin seeds and ground black pepper and apply to your scalp to nourish it and prevent hair loss.  happy dance
