Beauty Benefits of Mango

Summer has a special place in my heart. I’m sure it does in most of your hearts too. Even though the heat might make us go crazy sometimes, it brings so much joy of its own. One major thing I remember is, the summer holidays. I as a kid used to look forward to enjoy summer breaks. Where my mom used to get us ice creams, Rasna (a famous drinks among kids those days) on her own. We didn’t even had to beg much. haha. Also, talking about summer, how can we forget that it’s the season of yummy mangoes.

Who doesn’t like mangoes??? We all do..!!! So many dishes we can prepare, be it sweets, spicy pickle what not…!!! Every dish made out of mangoes will win our hearts.

We all have heard that eating more mangoes is not good. It will increase body weight and body heat. But let me tell you, too much of anything is bad. Isn’t it? In fact, nutritionist recommend seasonal fruits. With weather, our body changes internally. Eating seasonal fruits would help our body for sure.

Apart from helping our body, mangoes also help us in improving our skin and hair. How? Let’s see the list of benefits we can get from mangoes to get beautiful skin.

  • Vitamin A and C are more important when it comes to maintain good skin and hair. Mangoes have both these vitamins in them. Applying mango pulp to hair adds moisture and shine.

How to prepare mango hair mask:

All you need to do is take the pulp and squeeze. Apply the juice and pulp to your hair. Keep it for 15-20 minutes before washing it.

  • Similarly, if you are worried about dry skin, apply mashed mango pulp to your face to add moisture.
  • Vitamin C is required to maintain collagen level. Collagen is responsible for skin elasticity and avoiding wrinkles. By consuming a cup of mango everyday helps in improving skin’s texture.
  • Maintain health of facial pores is what is important to maintain good facial skin. Clogged pores are the biggest culprit to cause breakouts. Applying mango pulp to face helps in unclogging pores and thus keeping pimples at bay.
  • Not just the pulp, even the seed can be helpful in order to improve the health of our hair. Mango seed oil can help with reducing hair fall and greying of hair.

How to prepare mango seed oil at home:

Remove the pulp and dip the mango seed in any oil of your choice, like for example coconut/ sesame oil. Place this container under sunlight for some days. Using this concoction regularly, can help you get healthy hair.

  • Vitamin A in the mango helps in adding shine to hair, plus it helps in reducing dandruff when applied.
  • Mango also has vitamin E in it. When we apply mango pulp on to our scalp, this vitamin helps in the scalp circulation thus boosting hair growth.
  • If you have blemishes or dark spots on your face, all you need to do is to apply mango pulp on the effected area. With regular use, it is proved that mango can reduce the appearance of dark spots or blemishes.

These are some of the quick tips to make the most of this season’s fruit – Mango. 😉 So the next time while you enjoy eating one, don’t forget to apply on your skin and hair to get glowing skin and hair.  (In short, be like Katrina Kaif in ads of a soft drinks you see in the television. haha. Facial Cleansing Brush : New Entrant in The World of Skin Care

I had a gooooood shopping marathon this weekend. Ahhh happiest girl on earth while I pick my shopping bags up.

Skin care being the important factor, picked up some skin care products. Face cleansing brush being one among them.

If you live in Instagram for most of the time of your day, I am pretty sure you must have come across some of the people using this cute little round/oval brush on their face. These brushes are called facial cleansing brushes. As the name suggests, they are used to clean the face.

These brushes are originated from Sweden. Used as a part of skin care routine to get super clean skin.

Let me just quickly walk you through more details like how to use, where to buy from etc. etc. Shall we???

Why???

Facial-Cleasing-Brush-1.jpg
Let me start with the basic question – why facial brush??? So, the brush acts like tiny fingers which cleanse each and every tiny pores on your face. Thus leaving skin super clean while unclogging pores. Which in turn helps in preventing clogged pores and breakouts. Result??? Blemish free skin….!!!

How to use???

Foreo Luna Play Review (1).JPG
You need a good cleanser to start with. Apply cleanser on your face or take few drop of it on cleansing brush. Brush against your face gently in circular motion. Don’t forget to cover entire face(Of course skip the eyes and mouth area. haha.) Once you are done, wash your face. Ohhh hello clean face.

Types of Facial Brushes:

There are different types of facial brushes available as per the skin needs and the material used to prepare one. Here are some of the well known types,

Bristle:

DSC_0708.jpg
These are the very basic ones when it comes to facial or body brush. As the bristles fall on harder side, they are well suited for dry skin. They help in scrubbing off dead skin cells while cleansing the facial pores. I use one from The Body Shop. The bristle is quite soft and does good job.

You can buy one from here.
Silicon Brush:

These are squeaky smooth brushes with tiny silicon touch points which are responsible for cleansing your skin. These silicon brushes come in different sizes and shapes. Some have handles some may not. The one I recently bought is a silicon brush from the brand Forever 21.

Buy one here.

Electronic:

715Ne3Wi7CL._SL1500_.jpg
These brushes are considered to be an ‘investment’. As they fall on slightly pricier side and does a good job. The facial brushes which are in trend are mostly electronic one. They run either on battery or with electric power. The electronic ones have both types that is silicon brush as well as bristle head. Best part about these is they are automatic, you don’t have to put in that extra effort to massage your face. Turn on the machine and the vibration that’s generated does all the magic. They will come handy especially when you are super tired at the end of the day. A good massage is all we need to relax ourselves. Don’t we???

Thinking of buying one??? Here you go.

Let’s see what are the advantages of using the facial brush:

  • They leave skin super cleansed
  • Skin gets softer
  • With regular use, skin texture gets improved
  • Bristle brushes help in removing dead skin cells thus helping dry skinned beauties
  • They improve blood circulation
  • As they unclog the pores, blemishes or breakouts will be reduced.

landscape_nrm_1434362694-cleansing-brush.jpg
Disadvantages:

  • Bristle brush with hard bristles are not suitable for girls with sensitive skin or with breakouts.
  • If the proper hygiene is not maintained, you might end up doing bad than good to your skin.
  • A type of facial brush might not work on all types of skin. Choosing brush as per skin type is important.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Make sure you dip the bristle brush in water for a while before using. This will make sure that the bristles are wet and soft. Thus making sure they won’t hurt your facial skin.
  • If your skin is dry you can use the facial brush 2-3 times a week(if you choose bristle one.)or daily(if you choose silicon one).
  • Choose the number of times you want to use the facial brush as per your skin needs. Do not overdo.
  • Clean your brush after every use to avoid bacteria growth and causing harm to your skin.
  • Do not share the facial brush with anyone.
  • If you are using electronic brush with changeable bristle head, make sure you change them once in a month or so. Because no matter how much you maintain hygiene, there is a good chance that bacteria grow in between the bristles. Hence it is advised to change the bristle head.

Do you use facial brush for cleansing??? If the answer is yes, which one do you use??? If not, I hope this post tempts you to buy one.

Japanese Beauty Secrets!!!

Japanese women are truly blessed with a fair and spotless skin..!!! They look like a pretty porcelain doll… Isn’t it???

Have you ever wonder what must be the beauty regime of a Japanese woman ??? What must be her secrets to her spotless skin???

Well, today I will be sharing certain beauty secrets of these most beautiful people.

Watch what you eat:
For Japanese, beauty is not a project, its a life style. They believe in the inner glow you get by eating right. Japanese women do not eat spicy/sugary/salty/ fatty food. (Which are our weakness) Their diet includes fish, green vegetables and tons of fresh fruits. The omega 3 fatty acids present in these healthy food, helps in reducing the body’s production of the inflammatory chemicals. These chemicals are proven to be involved in the ageing process.!!!

They believe in one rule, if you can not eat it, you can not apply it. If you apply harsh chemicals, they do more harm than good. Japanese say that whatever you apply, end up in blood vessels through skin’s pores. Hence be cautious about what you apply to your skin.

Instead of rubbing lotion/cream on your skin, Japanese believe in lotion mask. Where, you need to damp a cotton wool with lotion and place it on face like a mask. Keeping it on face for a good amount of 10-15 minutes will make you achieve most of it and I always prefer a easy breezy, relaxing  mask over rubbing the lotion. wink

Japanese never recommend Botox/ any surgical method to stay young. I love the fact that they always always follow most natural method to glow. They spend some time daily to massage their face. They massage in the direction opposite to wrinkles thus they fight against sign of aging ‘wrinkles’.

Its about Concealers…!!!

Hey Sweetie pies,

I am so refreshed after the awesome weekend I had. Do you want to know what I did last weekend??? I had been to trekking at ‘Visapur Fort’ and visited ‘Bhaja Caves on Saturday. The scenic beauty, rain, the company of some great friends and the amazing historical caves refreshed my soul.

Last evening, I had been to MAC store (it’s like a holy place for us, the makeup addicts/shopaholics). Bought an eyeliner, which I will review soon.

I must say; as much as I enjoyed my weekend, I missed blogging here at my girlypedia. In order to cover up for the last two days, I am writing this post about ‘flaw covering’ makeup product – ‘Concealer’.

So, what is concealer?

Concealer/color corrector, used to mask dark circles, age spots, large pores, and other small blemishes visible on the skin.

Why concealer???

Like I said before, it is used to hide flaws and achieve flawless finish.

When to use concealer?

Concealer is usually used after primer, before/after foundation. But I would suggest you to use it before foundation to get smoother and flawless result.

images

On which part of face do we need to apply concealer??

  • If you want to even out whole skin tone of face, you can apply it all over face. Make sure you choose same shade as that of your natural skin tone.
  • Else, you can apply under eyes, on blemishes, on uneven patches, around mouth (if you have darker skin around mouth), pimples etc.

What are the differences between foundation and concealer?

  • This is similar to foundation but it is thicker which helps in better coverage.
  • Foundation is applied on large area of face. Concealer is used on under eyes, on pimple scars and on other types of flaws on face.

Can we use only concealer on face??

Yes you can. You can also use lose powder to get clearer look.

Revlon-2013-Colorstay-24-Hours-Foundation-Concealer-Promo1

Do we get concealers in different shades???

Good news is yes…!!! There are multiple choices when it comes to shades available for concealers.

  • I would suggest you to choose a concealer of shade one or two lighter than your skin tone for hiding dark spots. The reason behind this is, when you apply concealer of lighter shade on the darker spots like pimple scars, will even out skin tone…!!!
  • You can pick a concealer similar to your skin tone if you just want to hide or blur minor imperfections.

Are there any different forms of concealer???

Yes… There are multiple liquid and solid/ cream form of concealers.

What are the types of concealers???

  • Yellow Concealers:

This is safest type of concealers when you think of experimenting. This is used to even out skin tone. It vanishes the uneven skin tone.

  • Pink concealers:

This is a savior for those beauties who have dark blue or purplish areas on face caused by pimples, broken veins, or rosacea. If the under eye area is darker, this concealer can be used.

P

  • Green Concealers:

This is used to neutralize red zones on your face. By red zone I mean, blemishes, acne, red spots. But it is recommended not to use it on dark spots and under eye circles.

Make-Up-For-Ever-Camouflage-Cream-Pot-No.-17-Green

Big question – How to apply concealer???

  • Apply primer to minimize the pores.
  • Choose a concealer of lighter shade.
  • Put few drops of concealer under your eyes. Using a makeup sponge, gently blot the concealer into your skin. (You can also use your fingers to pat and blend the concealer)
  • Apply foundation of the shade similar to your skin shade.
  • Blend it to get flawless look.

How to avoid looking caked up??

You need to prepare your skin before applying concealer, in order to avoid looking caked up. Apply primer/ moisturize face before concealer.

So, these are the questions popped into my mind about concealers. If you want to know anything more about this magical product, do let me know. Love to help you. Angel smile

Love for Perfumes…

Hey girlies,

“A woman’s perfume tells more about her, than her handwriting” –  Christian Dior
Raise your hand if you are a perfume addict like me. I have a collection of body mists and perfumes which match my mood. Sweet floral fragrances make my heart melt. Hence I end up buying the mostly sweet girly mists. Which type of fragrance do you love???

If you ask me which are my favorite mist and perfume… I would say “Passion Struck Body Mist from Victoria Secret” and “Zara Woman  Black Perfume”. They are amazing. I am pretty sure, girls who love mild sweet fragrance are making note of these cuties’ names. wink

Fragrance Notes:

Just like music, a perfume’s fragrances can be classified into 3 notes based on their staying power. Let me give you a quick glimpse of the 3 fragrance notes.

 1. Top/ Head notes:

These are perceived immediately on application. (Sometimes, you might have heard the person at store,  after spraying the perfume saying” wait for a while to smell the perfume”. This might be because, the perfume might not be a top/head note.

2. Middle / Heart notes:

These are the perfumes, which become pleasant with time.

3. Base note:

These are the perfumes which are not perceived within 30 minutes of application.

Categories Based on Fragrance Type:

They can also be classified based on the fragrance type. The chart below is useful to know more about the categorization.

Sometimes when people look at my body mist bottle and ask me which perfume do I use, I correct them saying its body mist not a perfume. smile  Then the obvious question pops in. “What is the difference between perfume and a body mist…!!!” So, today I thought why don’t I share the difference between them here, in mygirlypedia.

So, what is a perfume… Perfume is a mixture of fragrant essential oils and aromatic components. Where as, body mist is lighter, milder version of perfume with more water content. Which makes it safe to apply directly on skin. Please note, both contain alcohol contents in them. Alcohol content makes the perfume/ mist to evaporate faster.
Below are some of the notable differences between perfume and body mist.

Perfume Body Mist
Water content is less Water based
Strong fragrance Lighter fragrance
Lasts longer Does not last long
Expensive Non expensive
Contains oils Does not contain oil
Concentrated Less concentrated
Not recommended to use directly on skin Can be used directly on skin

Some of the tips to be followed, in order to make your perfume last longer:

  1. Fragrance lasts longer on moisturized skin. So, for the oily beauties, the fragrance lasts longer. If your skin is dry, no worries. Apply a good moisturizer before applying the fragrance. Applying moisturizer of same brand(just like Victoria secret body lotion) makes the fragrance last really long. This is the reason, using body wash, lotion and fragrance from same fragrance line is always recommended.
  2. Applying mist/perfume on pulse points is a great idea to make the fragrance last longer. Like for example,
  • Behind your ear
  • Bottom of your throat
  • On your wrist
  • Inside your elbow
  • Behind your knee
  1. Always, always store the perfume/ mists away from heat, light and humidity. They break the molecules and hence downgrade the quality of fragrance.

  2. You can apply Vaseline jelly on pulse points before applying the mist. The jelly helps in trapping the fragrance and makes it last long.

  3. Best time to apply mist is soon after you step out of bath. The open pores absorb the fragrance better.

Perfume etiquette:

Yes there are certain rules / etiquette to follow, when it comes to perfumes.

  1. You might have observed some of your friends/colleagues wearing strong perfumes to school/office. I am sure most of us do not like the strong fragrances. In order to avoid the inconvenience to others, avoid wearing strong fragrance perfumes to workplace or school.
  2. Too much is too bad, so is not using perfume. I have seen so many people, who really need a good perfume. *phew* Spray a good mist/perfume to avoid body odor.
When the shelf life of a perfume gets over, please dump it. I know most of the girls are emotionally attached to certain stuffs. (I am one among them.. *hehe* ). In this case, you can keep them. But do not use them.
  3. Before spraying perfume on your clothes, make sure it is fabric friendly. Certain perfume leave permanent stain on clothes. *ouch*

These are some of the information I have about fragrances.  smile

After the shopping therapy, aroma therapy works best for me…!!! wink If you also love perfumes and mists, do let me know your favorite ones. Would love to try them.

Happy Weekend beautiful,

Pallavi ❤
