Why Sunscreen is A Must For A Great Skin

Sunscreen, something which is very very essential in order to protect your skin from harmful sunrays. Protection against sunrays doesn’t really mean you are protecting skin from getting tanned. It’s way more than that.

When it comes to sunscreen, it’s not just another cream or a lotion you are applying. Because it has some of its own points to be taken care of.

Let’s see one by one. As I’m pretty sure there are some basic questions you might be having in your mind about sunscreens.

Let’s start with very basic. Major types of sun rays against which we use sunscreens.

What is UVA?

Ultraviolet rays A. These are long wave rays which can penetrate inside the skin even into the deepest or thickest layer…!!!

What is UVB?

Ultraviolet B. These are short ways and mostly cause damage to upper layer of skin.

Why do we need to use sunscreens?

  • For protection against tanning
  • Skin burns
  • Skin cancer
  • To slowdown the process of aging.

Which is more harmful, UVA or UVB?

UVA is way more harmful. Because UVB burns your skin, whose results are reversible. Whereas UVA causes permanent aging if skin which leads to skin cancer.

When is the time in the day where we need to use sunscreens the most?

It’s said that between 10 am to 2 pm, the sun rays are strongest.

What is SPF?

You must have seen SPF written on sunscreen. SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. It’s the way we measure how much the sunscreen can protect you against UVB rays.

For example, if your skin burns after ten minutes of exposure to sunlight, the SPF 20 will let you be in sun light for approximately 200 minutes without getting your skin burnt. That is 20 times more than usual. This is why people prefer sunscreen with more SPF value.

What is minimum SPF that is recommended?

Experts recommend sunscreens with at least SPF 15.

Important point for applying sunscreen.

As I said, it’s not just another cream. You need to apply on face and on body parts which are exposed to direct sun, 15 minutes prior to stepping out. Yes, it needs some time to settle and start working.

Is applying sunscreen in the morning is enough to get protected?

No. Experts say that we need to apply sunscreen every couple of hours for complete protection.

Is it necessary to apply sunscreen while you are indoors?

Yes. Dermatologist recommend using sunscreen even while you are indoors. Because if it’s really hot outside, chances are high that sunrays can cause damage to your skin even while you are not exposed directly to the sunrays.

Should we really apply sunscreen on winter or rainy days??

Doctors say yes. Even when it is cloudy out there, sun rays can still damage your skin cells. 20% to be precise. 20 out of hundred sun rays can still penetrate and damage your skin even when it’s cloudy. Applying a layer of sunscreen should be helpful throughout the year.

What is PA++?

If you check a sunscreen package, you might find this written on it – PA++. Do you know what it is? It’s the protection grade of UVA rays. These are the rays which are responsible for tanning of your skin. Thus more PA++ content, more protection from getting tanned in sun.

What is the difference between PA+, PA++, PA+++???

PA+ is basic one. Where sunscreen can protect your skin from darkening between the scale of two to four.

PA++ can give you moderate protection against sun rays. Between four to eight.

PA+++ is the highest grade available. This is recommended to those who get exposed to strong sunrays. The scale of protection being more than eight, you can count on this if you don’t want to get tanned.

How to apply sunscreen?

Once you are done with day makeup, apply a good amount of sunscreen as a last layer. Don’t forget to apply on your neck, hands and feet which are exposed to sun.

What are the types of sunscreen?

You get sunscreen in the form of cream, lotion, spray and gel. Choose the one which suits you the most.

How to protect your skin while you are outdoor and which involves water sports?

You just have to chose water resistant sunscreen with high SPF and PA+++.

Concealers I Recommend For That Flawless Look

Hello pretty,

In one of my set of posts for makeup beginners, I had included a whole post for this flaw covering product called concealer. Yes,this is the product used to get flawless skin look. It covers skin problems like blemishes, spots, dark patches etc.

Everyone has bad skin day. These unwanted pimples can come anytime. Uhhh. So keeping these concealers handy would be a wise choice.

I do have couple of concealers with me. They are from my favorite brands – Lakme and Maybelline. Which I’m gonna quickly review now.

Lakme Absolute Color Intense Concealer:

There are 3 different shades available.

  • Honey (05)
  • Medium (03)
  • Fair (01)

Click On Below Image to Shop

I chose the shade 01.

Best part it comes with SPF 20. So, hello summer. 😉

Price:

600 INR for 3.6 g. I bought it from Nykaa for 413 INR. Thanks to the sale with 25% off.

Shelf Life:

2 years.

Packing:

It comes in a bullet packing just like a lipstick. The grey and silver packing is kind of sober yet attractive. The transparent plastic cap is tight but not so sturdy. I had broken it ones. This is my second tube. So you don’t have to worry of any spillage but you should be cautious that you won’t break the cap.

The twist and apply technique is very handy. You don’t have to use any applicator as such.

The transparent cap also makes it easy to keep an eye on the product left. The shade number is printed at the bottom of the pack. Which helps in differentiating the shade.

Fragrance:

It has a faint fragrance of candies. Smells yummy.

Consistency:

The product is creamy. The results or finish it gives is a matte finish. But it doesn’t dry the skin.

Coverage:

This is the main point for concealer. The coverage it provides is light to medium. I can’t say it totally hides the pimple marks, but it make them appear faint. But this is good enough to cover dark circles.

What I loved about Lakme Absolute Color Intense Concealer:

  • It has SPF 20.
  • Coverage is good.
  • Travel friendly packing.
  • Twist and apply parking is handy.
  • Availability.
  • Value for money. Little goes long way so the quantity of product for the price is good.

What I didn’t like:

  • Shade availability is very less.
  • Second concealer I absolutely love is the one from Maybelline.

Maybelline Newyork Fit Me Concealer:

Shades available:

4 shades are available.

  • Light (10)
  • Sand (20)
  • Medium (25)
  • Cafe (30)

Click On Below Image to Shop

I chose the shade Sand (20) for me.

Price:

525 INR For 6.8 ml. (Buy from here)

Shelf life:

3 years

Packing:

It comes in a tube packing like lipgloss. The transparent plastic tube is sturdy. The black cap is tight.

The shade number at the bottom of the tube and the transparent pack makes it easier to recognize the shade and the quantity of product left.

Fragrance:

It has mild fragrance of some chemical. It’s so mild that it’s hardly noticed.

Applicator:

The dove feet applicator is soft and Veryyyy easy to use. This makes the application super easy.

Consistency:

It’s a liquid concealer. Not runny though. The finish it gives is dewy and soft finish.

Coverage:

This will last in my makeup bag for long now because of the coverage it gives…!!! This hides the flaws really well. I was super annoyed by the pimple scar I had last week. Trust me it was so dark that it was a good reason to get annoyed. Lakme concealer I tried made it look light. But it was still noticable. Uhh. But this concealer hid it so well. I loved it. So I can say the coverage is pretty great.

What I like about Maybelline Newyork Fit Me Concealer:

  • Coverage is awesome.
  • Travel friendly packing.
  • Comes with a nice applicator.
  • Doesn’t dry skin.
  • Totally worth the money.

What I didn’t like about Maybelline Newyork Fit Me Concealer:

  • Doesn’t has any SPF content like that of Lakme.
  • Shade availability is less, especially for deeper skin tones.

Which one will I repurchase???

I would definitely go for Maybelline because of its coverage. SPF content is not my concern as I can apply some good sunscreen on it separately. Hehe.

Which one will I recommend???

My recommendation depends on your skin needs.

If your main concern is dark circles and you like products with sun protection contents, go for Lakme.

If you have different skin problems like pimple scars, dark patches, unevenness then go for Maybelline. This gives you a great coverage. You can add SPF product later. What’s say???

I hope these quick reviews will help you chose the concealer for you. If you want to know more about concealer do check this post of mine, where I have explained everything you need to know about it.

Hydration:

As every one knows, the heat drains out our body. So keeping our self hydrated is the key to survive summer.

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Try on hydrating masks for couple of times in a week.
  • Consume food which have more water content like cucumber, watermelon etc. to keep body cool.
  • Try to reduce or avoid caffeinated drinks, as they dehydrate body even more.
  • You can try out some recipes out of one of the most super friendly kitchen ingredients – Basil seeds. Check this post to know more about Basil seeds or Sabja.

Sunscreen Is Your Superhero:

1

In fact, not only summer but every season we need to use a layer of sun screen. I recently started using sun screen. All thanks to the super hot Sun.

Not only while stepping out, but sun screens should be applied and re applied every couple of hours even when you are indoor.

While looking for sunscreens, do look for the one with more PA factor along with SPF. I will write up a quick post about it soon.

Don’t Neglect Eyes and Lips:

headwrap 17

This is the season which is ideal to flaunt those sun glasses. Wear a good quality sun glasses to protect eyes from harsh Sun rays and keep them cool. I said ‘good’ quality. Because, if you compromise with the quality, you will be harming your eyes more than doing any good to them.

Also do not forget to pamper yourself by placing cucumber slices on eyes to keep them cool and healthy this summer. This also helps in keeping dark circles away.

For lips, do invest in a good SPF lip balm. Because you don’t want to end up with dry and pigmented lips. Do you???

Protect Your Crown:

Link-Up-Floppy-Hat

Hair is our crown. How can we neglect that??? When you step outside in the sun, don’t forget to protect them by wearing hats or scarfs.

We happen to sweat a lot in summers. This might make our scalp oily and cause scalp infections. Which will result in dandruff and hair fall. Washing them twice in a week at least, should help. If you face such problem this summer, do try these hair masks at home. Which will add that shine and make your hair summer ready.

Also, use good live in conditioner to avoid dry hair. Here are my recommendations.

Kitchen ingredients which will keep your skin cool:

There are certain home remedies which helps in keeping body hydrated and cool.

  1. Basil Seeds
  2. Aloe Vera

  4. Lemon
  5. Rose Petals

Exfoliation:

exfoliate
Scrubbing away those dead cells helps in achieving smooth skin. Also, it helps the skin pores to breath. This also helps in unclogging skin cells thus avoiding skin rashes.

Change in Cosmetics:

Beautiful-makeup-wallpapers

If you have not yet opted for waterproof makeup, do switch. Because water proof makeup is something essential for summers as well as monsoons. All thanks to sweat and rain in the respective seasons.
I have posted about waterproof makeup here, which you might find helpful for summers as well.

This are some of the tips that can make summer even more joyful… 😊

Keep in mind, health comes first. The more you are healthier from inside, the more you shine from outside. 😊

Hope this helps 😊

There are many of my friends who wants to improve the skin texture but too lazy to do all the rituals. No worries. Today I am gonna share some super lazy tips which you can afford to do,  to achieve good skin.

Read on,  if you are one among those pandas.

  • Cleansing

I know it’s not your type to go and look for a cleanser for your skin type and blah blah blah. So all you need to do is, keep wet wipes next to your bed. Just pull one out and clean your face before sleeping. Removing impurities /dust/makeup is a must.

  • Moisturizer

Na I won’t bother you by explaining toner and stuff. Just apply a layer of good moisturizer before ending your day. No matter what skin type you are blessed with, a good moisturizer is a must.

  • Hydration

You must have heard a lot that we need to drink lots of water. Yes we need to. This will keep body mind and Skin healthy.

  • Vitamins

If you are too lazy to follow good diet or beauty steps, consume vitamin supplements. But yes, you have to take an extra effort to meet a good doctor before consuming.

  • Lip care

I know lip scrub or primer are not in your world. Haha but we need to scrub lips to get rid of those chapped surface. Ummm how will I do it??? Simple.. Just gently brush your lips after brushing your teeth with the help of toothbrush.

  • Makeup

Foundation concealer etc might sound like rocket science for some girls.  So I will tell you simpler makeup tips.

  • Eyes

Kajal..!!!  A stroke of Kajal we need to conquer the world. If you want to know how much kajal means to us, check this.

  • Smudged Kajal Look

Apply kajal before going to bed. You will have naturally smudged eye makeup look the next morning.  But avoid doing it everyday. As sleeping with eye makeup on is not recommended on daily basis.

  • Lips

Apply a good lipstick or a tinted lip balm. You are good to go.

  • Face

If you are a dry skinned beauty, dab some moisturizer before applying a day cream. If cream has SPA/SPF content, it’s added benefit.

  • Lazy to apply body lotion?

Drop few drops of essential oils to the bathing water. This will take care of body moisture after bath.

  • Hair wash!!!

Too lazy to wash hair???  No worries…  Dry shampoos are your Angeles.

  • Hair style

Tie hair in a bunch before hitting the bed. You will wake up with nice wavy hair in the morning.

  • Excess sweat

Keep tissue papers handy. You don’t have to go shopping for product to solve this problem. Just pat a tissue paper on your oily zone and and you are good to go as the tissue absorbs all the sweat.

I hope these tips will transform you from

“This gal is pretty lazy”

To

“This lazy gal is pretty ”

Hair and Skin Care Tips for Holi…

Hey,

The festival of colors is here…  Holi is here…  This festival marks the end of winter and start of summer…  It is celebrated as the victory of Devine over evil…  Holi is celebrated by applying colors or rather playing with colors with family and friends…

As much as we enjoy playing Holi, we suffer a bit, to get skin and hair cleaned post that.  So,  I have this quick post on how to take care of hair and skin this Holi season…

🎆 Oil your hair 15-20 minutes prior to Holi celebration. It keeps your scalp hydrated and washing hair would be easy. Plus, it won’t make your hair dry post wash.

🎆 Apply moisturizer with SPF content all over the body. Moisturizer avoids extra dryness due to chemicals in colors and SPF avoids tanning.

🎆 Wear cotton clothes. Denims will be heavy and other clothes will be sticky once you get wet by colored water.

🎆 It’s advisable to wear full sleeve shirts.  The more area you cover, the more protection for your skin from harsh chemicals.

🎆 Avoid wearing lenses and spectacles. If you can’t manage without spectacles… Be extra cautious. Those surprise attacks of colors might damage the glasses.

🎆 Carry alovera gel if you are allergic to colors. Alovera soothes the itchiness.

🎆 Instead of using chemicals to wash colors, use alovera or glycerin based soaps.

🎆 Don’t forget to apply generous quantity of body lotion post bath.

So this was about self care.  Now couple of  tips to be a good soul.

💖 Do not apply colors to animals. They don’t enjoy that. They lick the colors in order to clean themselves. They end up consuming lot of chemicals in this process. Please take care of our animal buddies.

💖 Avoid wasting water. I know it’s fun to throw colored water but please think of those people who are dying due to scarcity of water. Enjoy a dry Holi.

I hope these tips will be useful for you…  Enjoy ‘the festival of love ‘to the fullest.  Spread colors…

May your life be filled with all the beautiful colors…

Happy Holi… 😇
