Why Sunscreen is A Must For A Great Skin

Sunscreen, something which is very very essential in order to protect your skin from harmful sunrays. Protection against sunrays doesn’t really mean you are protecting skin from getting tanned. It’s way more than that.

When it comes to sunscreen, it’s not just another cream or a lotion you are applying. Because it has some of its own points to be taken care of.

Let’s see one by one. As I’m pretty sure there are some basic questions you might be having in your mind about sunscreens.

Let’s start with very basic. Major types of sun rays against which we use sunscreens.

What is UVA?

Ultraviolet rays A. These are long wave rays which can penetrate inside the skin even into the deepest or thickest layer…!!!

What is UVB?

Ultraviolet B. These are short ways and mostly cause damage to upper layer of skin.

Why do we need to use sunscreens?

  • For protection against tanning
  • Skin burns
  • Skin cancer
  • To slowdown the process of aging.

Which is more harmful, UVA or UVB?

UVA is way more harmful. Because UVB burns your skin, whose results are reversible. Whereas UVA causes permanent aging if skin which leads to skin cancer.

When is the time in the day where we need to use sunscreens the most?

It’s said that between 10 am to 2 pm, the sun rays are strongest.

What is SPF?

You must have seen SPF written on sunscreen. SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. It’s the way we measure how much the sunscreen can protect you against UVB rays.

For example, if your skin burns after ten minutes of exposure to sunlight, the SPF 20 will let you be in sun light for approximately 200 minutes without getting your skin burnt. That is 20 times more than usual. This is why people prefer sunscreen with more SPF value.

What is minimum SPF that is recommended?

Experts recommend sunscreens with at least SPF 15.

Important point for applying sunscreen.

As I said, it’s not just another cream. You need to apply on face and on body parts which are exposed to direct sun, 15 minutes prior to stepping out. Yes, it needs some time to settle and start working.

Is applying sunscreen in the morning is enough to get protected?

No. Experts say that we need to apply sunscreen every couple of hours for complete protection.

Is it necessary to apply sunscreen while you are indoors?

Yes. Dermatologist recommend using sunscreen even while you are indoors. Because if it’s really hot outside, chances are high that sunrays can cause damage to your skin even while you are not exposed directly to the sunrays.

Should we really apply sunscreen on winter or rainy days??

Doctors say yes. Even when it is cloudy out there, sun rays can still damage your skin cells. 20% to be precise. 20 out of hundred sun rays can still penetrate and damage your skin even when it’s cloudy. Applying a layer of sunscreen should be helpful throughout the year.

What is PA++?

If you check a sunscreen package, you might find this written on it – PA++. Do you know what it is? It’s the protection grade of UVA rays. These are the rays which are responsible for tanning of your skin. Thus more PA++ content, more protection from getting tanned in sun.

What is the difference between PA+, PA++, PA+++???

PA+ is basic one. Where sunscreen can protect your skin from darkening between the scale of two to four.

PA++ can give you moderate protection against sun rays. Between four to eight.

PA+++ is the highest grade available. This is recommended to those who get exposed to strong sunrays. The scale of protection being more than eight, you can count on this if you don’t want to get tanned.

How to apply sunscreen?

Once you are done with day makeup, apply a good amount of sunscreen as a last layer. Don’t forget to apply on your neck, hands and feet which are exposed to sun.

What are the types of sunscreen?

You get sunscreen in the form of cream, lotion, spray and gel. Choose the one which suits you the most.

How to protect your skin while you are outdoor and which involves water sports?

You just have to chose water resistant sunscreen with high SPF and PA+++.

So, these were some of the questions which were asked to mygirlypedia by some of my beautiful readers. Hope this helps you.

Everything You Need to Know About Derma Rollers

Have you heard about the new hottest skin care trend – ‘Derma Roller’???

I will tell you allll the details about this skin care technique in this post today.

So, to start with – What is a derma roller???

article-1226193-071CEA4F000005DC-794_634x332
Derma roller is a tool with a wheel. The interesting part of this wheel is, it has 100 to 1000 micro needles on it..!!!

How does it works???

The whole idea behind the tool is, using the handle you will roll the wheel all over your face. The needles will penetrate into your skin and reach the area where collagen and elastin is produced.

How to Choose the Right Derma Roller for Your Needs???

Needle Length

This plays a significant role when it comes to ‘serving the purposes’. Different needles’ length, different the action.

Let me list the ideal length of needle for massaging face parts:
Forehead – Up to 0.75 mm
Under Eyes – Up to 0.75 mm
Cheeks – Up to 0.75 mm
Nose – Up to 1.0 mm
Nose Tip – Up to 1.5 mm
Chin – Up to 0.75 mm
Neck – Up to 0.75 mm
Upper Lips – Up to 0.75 mm

Number of Needles:

Roller with broader wheel with maximum needles can be ideal to treat larger areas like neck.

Smaller roller is recommended for face.

Length of Handle –

Depending on your comfort, you can choose the one for you.

Advantages of Using Derma Roller

  • As I mentioned earlier, it punchers skin cells. Thus helps in penetration of the products you use inside the cells. Which will help you get 100% benefits of the product you use.
  • You can get plumper lips by using derma roller over your lips.
  • The fact is it does damage skin cells. But that is how it works. As and when skin cell is damaged, there is production of collagen. Thus making the skin plumper and glow.

  • Using roller on wrinkles can work wonders. Collagen and elastin helps in creation of new cells and bye bye Winkles.
  • Collagen production also helps in curing the skin imperfections like – scars’ marks, sun damage, hyper pigmentation, stretch marks etc.
  • Also, massaging head with derma roller will helps in producing hair growth hormones. Thus helping in hair growth and curing baldness.

Things to Consider When You Opt for Derma Roller:

  • Hygiene – Do not share your roller with someone else. Always clean it before using it.
  • Roller needles with length 0.50 mm or more should not be used daily. Using it frequently will cause more harm than good. Hence using them once in 4 to 6 weeks is recommended.

derma-roller-side-effects

  • Make sure the product which you are using on your face is safe and you are not allergic to it. Because, the darma roller helps the product to get into the skin. If you are allergic, you might end up worsening the situation.
  • Do not use it on pimples. This can cause more blunders than wonders on your skin.
  • Be extra cautious while using it around your eyes. As they are the most delicate organ.
  • If you are less tolerant to pain, this is not for you. Depending on your comfort go ahead with the method.

Please note:

Micro-Needling-before-after-Face

At the end of the day they are needles. They puncture your skin cells. Most common and obvious thing that will happen is that the bleeding and the pain.

If you are using needles with length 0.25 mm or below, the pain is very negligible or no pain. But, 0.5 mm are happened to be painful and also effective.

Only if you think your skin need the treatment and the pain is worth, go ahead. You can Buy it from here.

Hope you enjoyed knowing a new skin care technique today. 🙂

For Japanese, beauty is not a project, its a life style. They believe in the inner glow you get by eating right. Japanese women do not eat spicy/sugary/salty/ fatty food. (Which are our weakness) Their diet includes fish, green vegetables and tons of fresh fruits. They believe in one rule, if you can not eat it, you can not apply it. If you apply harsh chemicals, they do more harm than good. Japanese say that whatever you apply, end up in blood vessels through skin’s pores. Hence be cautious about what you apply to your skin.

Lotion mask:
Instead of rubbing lotion/cream on your skin, Japanese believe in lotion mask. Where, you need to damp a cotton wool with lotion and place it on face like a mask. Keeping it on face for a good amount of 10-15 minutes will make you achieve most of it and I always prefer a easy breezy, relaxing  mask over rubbing the lotion. wink
