I am personally so bad at keeping ‘new year’s resolutions’ that, I have just stopped that custom..!!

My Detox Water Recipe

Detox water..!

You might have read about this magical water in Mygirlypedia before. If not give it a read here, to know why I call this magical.

We can mix different ingredients and sip this drink to get most of it. Here is the post where I will be sharing the list of ingredients I use to make detox water and benefits of each of them.

What You Need?

  • Fenugreek Seeds
  • Mint Leaves
  • Cucumber
  • Lemon
  • Glass Bottle
  • Water (Obvio) 😋

 

Fenugreek Seeds:

5 Fenugreek seeds.

Fenugreek/ Methi seeds have lot of health benefits. To name some:

  • Helps in weight loss
  • Improves digestion
  • Reduces cholesterol level
  • Protects heart health
  • Helps in reducing the body heat
  • Boosts immune system
  • Prevents cancer
  • Helps in dissolving kidney stones
  • Relief from stomach disorder
  • Controls Blood Sugar level

 

Mint Leaves:

5 to 6 should be enough.

Water:

Fresh water. A Liter should be more than sufficient.

Glass Bottle:

Why glass bottle? Glass because it is not only good for our planet but also for us. Glass bottles repel food odours and residual flavours. They also significantly extend the flavour and quality of food stored in them. Plus, unlike plastic these glass bottles won’t release any chemicals.

How to prepare?

It’s pretty simple. Chop and put first four ingredients into the glass bottle. Add water. Place the bottle inside fridge overnight.

Overnight – because time is required for the water to get the flavours/ for the ingredients to work.

Fridge – because drinking cold water helps in improving metabolism and helps in weight loss. Body has to work harder for the cold water to reach the normal body temperature. Thus more calories are burnt.

Consume it on an empty stomach for better results.

I can say the recipe I have is mostly for the weight loss. What’s more better than losing weight by consuming something..!!! #LazyGirlsDream

This is Why I Replaced White Rice With Brown Rice

‘Rice’ is not just a food, it’s a feeling for us, south Indians. I can eat rice all day long…!!! Never ever get tired of rice. If you are also a rice lover like me then, high five…!!!

As you might be aware, there are different types of rice – white, brown, red, wild, black etc. Depending upon the weather, people at different regions prefer different type of rice.

People from my native place consume white rice the most. Recently when I joined the madness of ‘diet conscious’ squad, I was made to think about the food I consume the most – Rice.!!

That’s why I gave a thought about choosing a better rice for me. (Trust me it hurts to leave love of your life – white rice. 😝 It’s not like end of relationship. White rice and I are ‘on a break’ I can say.)

So with heavy heart, I have replaced my white rice with brown rice. Even though the taste and the completeness white rice gives is nothing compared to any other rice for me, I have started liking the taste of brown rice. All thanks to the voice inside my head which reminds me the advantages brown rice has over white one.

PS : I have not even thought about choosing red rice, because it takes a lottt of time to cook. Phew

Let’s see what are the good qualities brown rice has:

Advantages:

  • Brown rice has less calories. Thus keeps check on body weight.

  • Fibre content is more in brown rice. Fibre helps in keeping digestive system clean and healthy. Also make sure there is no stomach issues happening.

  • Brown rice has less carbs. Carbs increase the blood sugar level. Thus brown rice helps to keep your blood sugar level to minimum.

  • Brown rice in not refined. Thus all the nutrients and goodness is in intact. Unlike brown rice, white rice is polished, contains gluten and additives. Even though many manufactures add nutrients to white rice to make it healthier, real nutrients are always better than the additives. Isn’t it?

  • Brown rice is richer in vitamin B, magnesium and selenium.

Disadvantages:

  • Brown rice takes lot more time than white rice. For white rice you got to let cooker whistle for 3 to 4 times max. It will be cooked, all soft and ready to consume. But for brown rice, you need to let the cooker whistle for minimum 10 times to cook it to make it softer.

Similarity Between White Rice and Brown Rice:

  • They both have equal portion of fat and protein in them.

So, these were the points that convinced me to replace my white rice with brown one. Hope this post has helped you to start ‘ clean diet ‘. 😝

 

OOTD : Imperfectly Perfect

So,

Today I went out with one of my closest friends to get clicked. Of course for my blog purpose. The outfit I chose today is a combination of dark pink and white top.

A lot of thoughts came to my mind while I checked my photos today. Before I pen down(read it as type) my thoughts, let me just share the details of the outfit first.

This netted pink skirt is from one of my random online shoppings. This is of ankle length. The inner layer is of same color. The skirt as you can make out in the pictures, is very comfortable to wear plus very soft.

The top. I was bit confused with styling this skirt with a black or a white top. While a black top would add a bit of boldness or strong factor to the outfit, the white top keeps it chick and cute. So, for a change, opted for a white one.

This white layered styled back top is bought from Myntra. The shoulder and the straps make this top something ‘hatke’. 😉

The belt I wore is from a boutique here in Pune. Wore it add some spark for the plain skirt.

For footwear, I styled it with the nu*e block heels from the brand 20 dresses.

Pearl is something I chose to complete the look. Pearl bracelet and earrings made this outfit even more cute and girly.

About the thought. I don’t know about you, but I love myself a lot. Think I am near to perfect in many ways. I’m sure many does. It’s one of those human nature. But what I realized today is, am I really taking a good care of myself???

No, I’m not talking about the things I need or want. It’s about my mental and physical health. Which is way more precious gift you can and should give to yourselves.

While I do go to gym at least five days a week, I feel nothing less than a celebrity. Fit celebrity I mean. Oh come on, if you are also sweating it out in gym, I’m sure you feel the same. But after looking at my tummy in pictures all I could remember was the junk food I have been eating lately.

Social media nowadays has a lot of effects on our generation. Mostly negative. Even though most of the magazine covers out there are heavily photoshopped, we believe that those people are blessed with perfect body and hair.

I know, nobody is perfect. Deep down, we all know. Even celebrities have days where they face bloating and face those extra inches here and there inside those perfect outfits. That’s ok. Absolutely.

But body fat is something we need to work on. For improvising our health.

PS: if you are thinking I have very negligible fat, well, thank you. But as my mom rightly says, it’s wise to start working on weight issues in the beginning. Because once you gain good amount of weight, the weight loss journey becomes way more tougher. Agreed?

While I am worried about visible results of the baby fat getting accumulated in the body, I am way more worried about things which we can’t see inside our body. We eat anything and everything sometimes. Emotional eaters, I hope you are listening…!!!

When we are young, our body is way more capable to handle these harm. But as we age, our body loses it’s capacity to do so. While we have time, I think we should definitely take a good care of ourselves by eating right and doing a good physical activity. This is definitely going to be one of the best gifts you can give to yourself. Don’t you think so???

Ahh about mental health. Tension, stress please stay away.

At the end of the day, I love myself. I love my body. But this doesn’t stops me from improving it.

What I want to tell you guys is, no point in worrying or getting depressed about body weight and those extra curves. This doesn’t mean, you so much fall in love with those curves that you make them bigger day by day. Balance it out. Till you achieve the body you want to (please don’t aim for a Victoria secret angel body, because it takes hell lot of effort), try and try.

Weight loss journey is not about sweating it out in gym. It’s mostly the mental strength you need to achieve the goals. How much you can control your cravings. How much you chose healthy over pleasure of eating.

I see many young girls doing crash diets or just getting sad day by day.

Girls, stop those things. Nobody is perfect. I had a good lunch today which can be seen in some of the pictures. Haha. That means we are blessed with good amount of food.

Balance the things. Instead of worrying about gained weight, plan about eating healthy and sweating it out with good activities.

Love yourself. Weight loss is not a rocket science. Anybody can do it. All it takes is a great disciplined diet and exercise. With regular efforts, I’m sure we can achieve it.

I’m going to start giving up on my love, junk food. I know it’s going to be way more tougher than I think. But I have to start it super soon.

Home Remedies to Treat Dark Underarms

Even though the summer is over, we still love wearing those cold/off shoulders or sleeveless tops or dresses this season. Bright colored outfit is going to brighten a gloomy day anyways….!!!

One thing to take care of, while wearing outfits that’s gonna expose your underarms area is the dark patches on the area. You might have also noticed ladies who have darker armpits as compared to their overall skin tone. That looks bad. Isn’t it???

Reason might be due to excess use of hair removal creams, deodorants(you should not use perfumes or deodorants directly on your skin. Check this post about perfumes to know more about it. ) or may be due to excess sun exposure. Reasons may vary but I have a list of home remedies which you can try out to get the one solution.

Ready to know the recipes?? Hope on…

Lemon:

When I hear the word skin whitening, one home remedy that comes to mind is ‘lemon juice’. (More about beauty benefits of lemon juice, here.)
All you need to do is apply a layer of freshly squeezed out lemon juice on your armpits. Let it dry and them wash it with warm water.
With regular use, it’s proven to lighten the armpits.

 

Potato:

Lemon and potato are like the president and vice presidents of the kitchen’s department of ‘skin whitening’. Just like the lemon, potato juice helps in brightening skin.
I know squeezing out lemon juice is way more easier than that of potato. You need a little more effort of grating potato to get the juice out of it. Apply this fresh juice on the effected area and leave it for sometime. Wash with warm water. It may or may not show the results within one use. But, with regular use, it will.

 

Multani Mitti:

One more ingredient for skin brightening is fuller earth, which is popularly known as multani mitti. In order to apply you need to make a paste out of this dry powder. For which, you can mix fuller earth powder with rose water or even with regular water.
Apply a thin layer on underarm area. Leave it for 5-10 minutes and rinse with water.
Please note, you don’t have to leave it till it dries of completely. Because it might just make the area dry by absorbing all the moisture of the skin, on which it’s applied.

 

Cucumber:

As cool as this vegetable is for summers when consumed, it is cooler for eyes and to skin when applied. Rub freshly cut cucumber pieces on the effected area. Along with soothing, it will brighten up the underarms.

 

Exfoliation:

You can either use dry brushing technique or try some home made scrubs to scrub away those dark and dead skin cells. Along with brushing away the layer of skin, it also unclogs the pores. You guys know clogging the sweat glands causes skin infection, which I have explained in this post.

 

Baking Soda:

Just like you use this one good ingredient for brightening your teeth, you can apply mixture of baking soda and water paste on dark patches to lighten the skin.

 

Orange peels:

Ok, for this you really need time and patience. If you have them, go ahead. One thing to mention, the results are totally worth the efforts.
In order to use orange peel, you got to dry them under the shade. Once they are dried, grind them to make powder out of it. As you guys know we can’t apply dry powder as a pack. All we need is a paste like consistency. To make a paste, mix the powder with rose water or regular water. Apply this paste on under arms and let it dry for 10 minutes, before washing using warm water.
With regular use, it not just going to brighten the underarm area, it also makes it smell good with fruity fragrance. So, bye bye bad odour.

 

Milk:

For a milky white underarm area, apply a layer of raw milk on it. Leave it for a while and then clean with water.

 

Coconut oil:

This is one magical oil that almost every south Indian swear by. This oil can heal anything. Like literally. haha. Applying coconut oil on armpits is going to add moisture and lighten the skin in and around it.

Saffron:

Saffron is one more Ayurveda ingredients used since ages for skin treatments. Dip few strands of saffron in milk. Apply this mixture on darkened area. Results are effective.

 

Things you need to avoid in order to avoid dark underarms:

After all, prevention is always better than cure. Isn’t it???
1. Do not use hair removal cream frequently. Once in a while, is fine. But always??? Na. If you use razor, you guys know it just cuts the hair strands. Doesn’t remove them from roots. Thus giving an illusion of dark underarms. Best solution??? Out of different hair removal techniques, go for waxing. It not only removes hair from roots, giving you a clean look, but also it removes the dead skin layer. Thinking about the pain??? Na… you will get used to it. hehe.

  1. Do not use perfumes directly on skin. Perfumes contain more alcohol that causes skin darkening. (Here is how you can use perfume without harming your skin and clothes).

  1. Do not over expose your skin to hot sun. More exposure, more skin damage.

  2. Weight loss.!!! When we exceed the idol weight, fat of our body that gets aggregated under the arms rub against the garments and can lead to dark underarms.

  3. Regular hygiene is important, to avoid dark underarms. Do not skip shower and also regular exfoliation helps you keep skin healthy.

I hope these help you if you have dark underarms. The next time you wear sleeveless dresses, you don’t have to be conscious about dark patches. Flaunt those white underarms with grace.

The More You Sweat The More You Shine

Are you a fitness freak??? Ahh this is the word used by many (I sometimes feel it a bit of negative due to the word ‘freak’ may be). Let me re-frame, are you fitness conscious or fitness enthusiast??? What does fitness or physical activity means to you???

I personally have tried and experienced this, I’m way more happier and positive on the days I do my exercises. Especially the outdoor activities like running, trekking etc. With great company, it’s like cherry on the top.

Well, while typing this, I’m shining. How???? Remember?? The more you sweat the more you shine. Hehe I know it was a PJ. 😋

So, I’m back from cycling. Well, I did cover 18 km today(I’m sure I won’t be able to feel my legs tomorrow haha). Not bad huun. With an enthusiast buddy, who keeps cheering you up and listens to your PJs (I do crack a lot of PJs (those who are living under the rock, PJ stands for’Poor Joke’)), cycling for long distance makes look easier.

I had read somewhere that being physically active is very beneficial for your mental health. Now that I have experienced this, I just thought of sharing my views about it.

If you guys follow me on Instagram, you already know that I am a software engineer by profession. Uff a boring life I must say. Your life is kind of restricted to a corner and it starts and ends within few tiles. No matter how positive you try to think about it, this is the truth guys.

Anyways, just to add that ‘do what you like’ flavor to my boring weekday, I try to hit gym. I was not regular till the time I realized something. Following a strict diet is not my cup of tea. I just cant eat ONLY healthy. You guys know how much I love junk food through my Fun Friday posts. But, I realized, I am way more active mentally and physically, way more enthusiastic, positive, happy when I hit gym or go trekking(which makes the most happiest and peaceful gal in the world. I love nature. ). A month ago I had almost stopped going to gym and no trekking(summer is not meant for trekking). I could actually realize my thinking pattern and my way of doing creative stuffs. Now that I have realized this, I will never ever going to miss the gym.

Along with such positive effect on you, there are multiple other benefits which you get via physical exercises. Lets see what are they..

  • Maintains Healthy Body Weight.
  • It adds the fun quotient. Lifts your mood by bursting the stress.
  • This is as basic as it sounds. Most of the people hit gym or do the physical activities to get fit by shedding extra fat. Because we all are aware what are the health issues you might get due to obesity.

How to be active???

When I say being physically active, doesn’t only mean getting an expensive gym membership. It can start right from where you are sitting.

  • You can start your day with few stretchering exercises in the bed itself. This will definitely a great way to kick start the day.
  • If your hectic morning schedule do not allow you to spare time for exercise, just accommodate exercise with some other work. Like for e.g. While brushing your teeth, you can do squats and lunges.
  • Have a kid(be it human or furry)??? take your kid out for a walk. You don’t even realize your exercise, while you enjoy the ‘family time’.
  • Involve in games which need physical strength. By the end of it you are sure you are gonna sweat like a pig. haha.
  • If your work makes you sit for long, don’t. Make sure you take regular breaks. Take brief Walks.
  • While sitting on chair, you can do some little exercises like leg lifts and side bends. (I do them)

  • You might have heard or read this for zillion times. Let me repeat it one more time – use stairs instead of lifts/elevator wherever possible.
  • If your work place is near by or going out for a quick shopping, walk instead of using vehicle. If you have a bicycle, you know what to do.

So, these are my tried and tested tips for being physically active.

There is this English reality show called “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”. It’s like being with them 24 X 7. Listening to ‘everything’ they talk. What do they talk??? Everything…!!! Kourtney Kardashian swears that she starts her day by drinking apple cider vinegar. After making my home work about this, I have started drinking this every morning. Since I know most of the things about it now, thought of sharing it with you guys.

What is Apple Cider Vinegar???

Apple cider vinegar, also known as cider vinegar /ACV, is a type of vinegar made from cider or apple.

How does it looks and tastes like???

It has pale to medium amber color and sour in taste. IMPORTANT thing is, its highly concentrated. It’s pungent, can even irritate your eyes. So, ALWAYS dilute before you consume.

Yeaahhhh…!!!! I know, I know,we all wanna eat our favorite food and never wanna look fat. How about doing these little things to shoot that nasty fat ???

Studies have proven that the acetic acid found in apple cider vinegar helps in slowing down fat accumulation. Also, its proved that on consuming this our stomach feels full thus we end up eating less. There you go, you have started with your weight loss journey already…!!!

Low Cholesterol:

A research was conducted where 1st specimen was not allowed to have Apple Cider Vinegar(ACV) in his diet, whereas the other one was allowed to. At the end of the study it was found that the one who was consuming ACV had drop in cholesterol level.

So, ACV has potassium content along with acetic acid in it. So, while the acid bind to the task of removing toxins, potassium helps in breaking up mucus and clearing lymph nodes. Thus helps in detoxification.

Garlic – is such an ingredient which has both haters and lovers. Some just love it, like I do… Some, run away because of it’s smell. I personally love the taste it adds to a dish. At my home, only my mom and I love garlic so my dad and sister give us the garlics to us if they find it in their plates. Not because sharing is caring, because garlic is precious. At least to my mom and me. hehe.

One of my intentions of this year being the healthier and fitter version myself, I have started with some of good healthy habits. One among them is drinking green tea…!!! Yes. weight loss or fitness discussion is incomplete without mentioning this magical drink called green tea. I have seen and heard people consuming this tea without knowing what actually it does to our body. How it actually works… Everybody knows that green tea is healthiest drink for body. But, what not everybody knows that drinking green tea has disadvantages also…!!!

I have gathered some information from people who have been consuming this ‘healthy’ drink since good long time and from other resources. Let me share you the information I got about Green tea.

Green tea’s origin:

Green tea is mostly popular in eastern countries like Japan, Thailand, India etc.

From where green tea is extracted:

Different types of tea powder are prepared from Camellia sinensis plant. The dried leaves and leaf buds are powdered to prepare tea powder. Different types of tea powder preparation involves different processioning methods. Well, our topic of the day – green tea, is prepared by steaming and pan-frying these leaves and then drying them.

What it contains???

Green tea contains two to four percent of caffeine. Also contains antioxidants.

How to prepare green tea???

There are many brands out there who offer a lot many flavored and unflavored green tea powders and tea bags. Just the way you prepare regular tea, instead of regular tea powder you will have to add green tea powder to milk. But if you are aiming for weight loss, do skip milk and sugar. Just hot water and green tea powder should be enough. If you didn’t like the taste, you can add natural sweetener like honey. Skip sugar my dear honey.

How  does it tastes???

I have started using Lipton green tea – Tulsi flavor. You just have to dip green tea bag in a cup of hot water for few minutes and close your eyes and drink. Closing your eyes is optional. haha. But, honestly it doesn’t tastes good but health comes before taste you know…!!!

How to consume green tea rightly???

This is something really important in order to get most out of this healthy drink.

  • Maximum quantity of green tea per day is 1200 ml, i.e. not more than 5 cups.
  • Green tea should not be consumed on empty stomach as it might cause liver toxicity.
  • If you have any medical history or pregnant, consultation about preferred quantity is must.
  • Never sip it in night unless you work as a watchman who is expected to be awake the whole night. You know what I mean.
  • Do not consume right after your meal. At least two hours of difference should be there between meal and green tea consumption. Because green tea doesn’t let your body consume the iron and other beneficial contents from the meal.
  • Consume loads of water on consuming green tea. You will find out why in the disadvantage section below.

Advantages of Drinking green tea:

These are the advantages you will get if you consume green tea rightly.

  • Improves mental alertness.

Green tea is not as easy as you think it is. It should be consumed rightly in right quantity. Else it will more bad than good to you. If you consume the tea in access quantity all of a sudden, you are inviting more trouble. Here are lesser known facts about it.

  • As I said green tea do contains caffeine. This is not a good content for those individual who have anxiety problems or for those ladies who are pregnant. Hence quantity to consumed should be decided after a consultation from a doctor.
  • If you exceed the limit of green tea intake per day, you will end up upsetting your stomach plus it might also cause nausea.
  • You know, green tea dehydrates your body??? Yes. You will have to drink more and more water if you consume green tea in order to balance the water content in the body.
  • It can increase anemia.
  • If you have glaucoma, green tea does increases pressure inside eyes. Thus worsening the condition.
  • Green tea may prohibit calcium from being absorbed into the bones thus resulting in osteoporosis.
  • Green tea can decrease the ability of your body to absorb iron content. Thus iron deficiency…!!
  • Might cause insomnia.
  • Caffeine can be more hazardous. It might end up irregular heart beats.
  • Green tea causes oxidative stress. Which might result in vomiting.
  • Excessive caffeine consumption has also been linked to muscle spasms and twitching.

  • Caffeine has also been linked to restless leg syndrome.
  • Green tea is acidic. It might you suffer from heartburn.
  • A study was conducted where green tea extract was found to significantly accelerate the onset of convulsions.
  • Caffeine in green tea can increase the risk of bleeding. Hence those who have bleeding disorders, stay away from green tea.
  • Green tea quite confusing I must say. There are studies which contradict each other, One study says green tea decreases diabetes and headaches. Whereas the other study says it increases them.
  • If green tea is consumed in higher quantity, it will damage liver.
  • The commonest skin allergies associated with green tea consumption are eczema and hives.
  • Green tea higher consumption results in kidney disorder.
  • Thyroid problems might also be caused.
  • One study states that consuming green tea too often can lower fertility.
  • Green tea does improve oral health but it also stains your teeth. Ooops…!!!

So, these are the points I wanted to share with you my dear reader.

I know disadvantage list is longer than the advantage list. But, green tea is not harmful at all if it is consumed in moderation. Right quantity, right way will achieve the best.

While I was sipping coffee the other day, a random thought about ‘what’s good and bad in coffee’  came to my mind. So after researching, I could list below points.

  • Helps your mental alertness. Moderate intake of coffee helps to stay focused and improves mental alertness. It also helps in increasing memory power.
